Little Saigon Adventures

Funny. I went to this plaza today because Kra-Z-Kai’s Lao BBQ was opening there today. As you said, the parking lot was packed and there was a loooooong line so I high-tailed it out of there for plan B. Should have asked what the line was for! Maybe the Lao BBQ was not busy. Hard to find a spot anyway. Enjoyed two sandwiches from Ba Le instead.

Sadly they are presently closed. I went to Bahn Xeo boys a few months ago and was sad that they were not open… and remain so…

Here was my to-go order from Bahn Xeo Boys… We loved it and the guys went all out in terms of the sides and packing things up… HOWEVER… this was before they allowed dine in and had the nice patio set up outside now. I would recommend eating it there now as it does loose quite a bit from travel…

Dommy yes they are closed at 4th Street Market at DTSA but are now open at this new place in Stanton, Rodeo 39 Public Market. Both Banh Xeo Boys and Steel Pan are currently open at Rodeo 39

Banh xeo should be eaten fresh. There’s magic in enjoying it while still crispy. Looks like a great box!

OMG!!! I had no idea they were already open! Even their insta says they are still closed… Stanton isn’t super close to us but it is closer than Santa Ana!!

New dipping sauce coming out of LS. See the funny ass skits on IG from supdawk featuring this sauce

We love cham brand actually. For anyone that doesn’t have time to make nuoc cham on their own or just can’t get it quite right, this is it.

Redboat also has an instant nuoc cham too and you just add water. It doesn’t have all the garlic, cilantro and Chiles so you can add and customize to your liking

Went to Rodeo 39 tonight. The place was very crowded but was still able to find seating pretty easily. If the Dodger game wasn’t on it probably would have been less crowded.

Parking tip - go to the neighborhood behind the strip mall. There are some spots in the back but a lot of parking on the street and around the neighborhood.

Most crowded stalls were Bahn Xeo Boys, Bestea, Shootz and Tenori. The bar was packed to the gills.

We had skewers from RTE. $12 plate with 2 skewers, veggie skewer, 2 crunchy plantains and a lot of jasmine rice. Some skewers are extra. You can order skewers a la carte. My son loved the pork belly and said it was better than Honda-ya which is his favorite. Great chimichurri sauce.

Black garlic ramen from Hironori. It was good but probably not going to order again unless sitting at the bar. The noodles clumped up. It was good but ramen to go doesn’t travel well.

Chicken karage from Oi fusion cuisine. Well fried with a nice garlic sauce a la Zankou. My wife said they had a weird spice but the kids devoured them.

All in all we liked this place better than 4th st or packing district. There are waitresses from Bearded Tang taking orders which is nice. We’ll definitely be back for Steel Pan and Phoholic (wasn’t open).

That is a very extensive report, I’ll work my way through some it it. Kudos for putting this together.

Not sure you are counting Little Saigon environs such as Fountain Valley, but Banh Khot Lady is fuckin fantastic. I guess it is not really a restaurant, but I really think is worth a mention. The banh knot reheated in the oven is amazing and the khot sauce is like crack.

Also, the folks on this board put me on to Phin Smith for their excellent ca phe sua da, which is easily the best I have ever had, which is admittedly limited to places in SoCal.

And of course, one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants which is currently closed from covid, LXSO in Huntington Beach, serves probably the most decadent and elevated Bo Kho I have ever had along with their delicious baguette. Also not sure Huntington Beach is considered Little Saigon, but close enough

Others may be more input that I, but this is just off the top of my head of places with gravitational pull.

I’ll let you have it lol.

Dude where is Ba Le (Best Banh Mi), Phin Smith (Best Cafe Sua Da) and Cococane (The original Cococane, one of the great new drinks invented here!)

Oh yeah what A5Kobe said Banh Khot Lady. I been eye banging those for so long. I already know those are the best in Little Saigon just by appearanc

Khoi Hung for the best Bo Luc Lac/Shaking Beef!!

Cococane, now that they need any attention because they been crushing it since they invented that drink would make a good Eater article @euno
They started out as a small fruit stand, got a store, invented a new drink, and in a few years have become one of the most popular spots in Little Saigon with copycats in the SGV lol. Its the American Dream.

I was always a bit nervous walking back into the office with a giant cup that said COCOCANE on it but nobody ever called me out. So good.

I like the Korean OC list btw. Thank you for showing Gaenali Bon Ga probably the best Korean that has recently opened up on the Blvd. You didn’t mention the gejang banchan that’s only available on the weekend! Who else does that? They even offered me the gejang twice, but I was somewhat of a regular and the owner recognize me. I like Mother N Law, but honestly the best soups are at Han Yang! Everything on the menu is good, including the Korean style donkatsu, octopus bibimbap, cold noodles, and seasoned thistle rice (you won’t find this dish in Ktown). I gotta try OC 7$ that’s a good find dude
