Have you had Chaak Kitchen in Tustin? i haven’t been since pre pandemic but i remember it being really good.
Kahani inside the Ritz. But they closed between 1/14-2/6.
that looks great - bummer I will be there right when they are closed!
is the sushi place inside the ritz any good, Taikun Omakase?
Maybe the new Mexican market in Costa Mesa? Mercado Gonzalez
planning to stop by for lunch on our way to OC!
This is probably too far away from Laguna but Kei Concepts just started a new supper club. $125 per person. Drink pairings are extra - they have mocktails. Folks behind Gem Dining, Vox Kitchen and others.
Tickets for February go on sale today at 6pm. I’m hearing good things thus far.

If you are taking the 5 and than thru the canyons you can make a stop at Oliboli Donuts.
Chaak was pretty meh the last summer and service especially by the manager left a lot to be desired.
We’ve really enjoyed Butcher’s Brasserie in SoCo if you like Provençal cuisine .
Folk Pizzeria is solid. Great crust and chicken wings. Tough resy.
Populaire is a fave in SCP.
LSXO Huntington Beach, nice for lunch too and you get the great view of the beach.
Oliver’s is pretty good Italian in Laguna. A lot of the waiters may look familiar from Angelini, Piccolo Paradiso, etc.
Renting a private boat/zodiac to get out to see the killer whales with Newport Coastal Adventures is a blast.
Damn, a lot of places went downhill after the pandemic, sucks
Have an OC friend mention Eller Bakery in CM as a place to check out
In house……mill, bakery, and coffee roasting.
That’s pretty unique and kinda reminds me of La Cabra in the East Village
Mo Ran Gak opening up in the same plaza as AR Mart and Tacos Los Cholos on Orangethorpe and Brookhurst. Signage is up but windows are blacked out. Parking here already sucks.
Los de Juarez Burritos (Anaheim)
The tortillas here are quite good!
Tried a few things and found that the best burrito is their chile relleno.
Their chicharrones is simmered in red sauce and still has bit of pork in addition to the silky, gelatinous chicharrones.
It’s interesting that most of their burritos are filled with the protein indicated and either rice or beans. That’s something Burritos La Palma does not do.
Their burritos are also twice the size/length of Burritos La Palma.
I’d come back for the chile relleno and their tortillas.
Are those prices for 1 burrito or 2? The pics on Yelp show a nice griddle on the burritos.
Price reflects 1 burrito, but it is griddled and is twice the length/size of one from Burritos La Palma.
They have a combo deal for slightly less than $21 where you pick 3 from the list (excludes the chile relleno) and it comes with a can of soda.
Hana Re (Costa Mesa)
W: Reminds me of Urasawa light. First half is non-sushi up through grilled wagyu; second half is sushi. The food otherwise tastes like genuine Japanese. I liked the first half better than the sushi. Definitely a one star restaurant for me.
How filling is 1 burrito?
Good idea. I like the Los de Juarez burritos. 1 is not enough for a full meal. You could do a bang bang with Tacos Los Cholos off State College and Lincoln. It’s on the way off the 57.
What is a bang bang there?
How many is enough for a decent size?
@attran99 is right.
1 los Juarez = 2 burritos las palmas. The burritos are skinny and not filled to the max with beans, rice, cheese, etc… unless you get the bean and cheese.
Bang bang means eating at multiple places back to back. You could split a few burritos with your friend then hit up Tacos Los Cholos for a few tacos.
