Birthday Weekend meals

Sushi Sonagi

Ordered a bottle of the 3 grain because they didn’t get their shipment of Winters Arrival. Effervescent, fruity, clean and not overly sweet. A fantastic meal. Highlights were the tile fish which he left the scales on and cooked with hot oil to make it crispy, ankimo, marinated tuna and langoustine.

Lunch at Yong Moon Lu. A notoriously terrible parking lot and even worse when somebody is celebrating their 90th birthday. They excel at fried dishes. Has easily replaced New Garden for Korean Chinese food in the Diamond Bar Rowland Heights area. Did my mom bring her own kimchi to the restaurant? Of course she did.

That tilefish prep at Sonagi looks super legit. And yeah, that parking sitch can be hellacious lol. Also, BYOK is a great pro tip (if one has the means lolol)… Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday!

Yung Moon Lu is an office favorite. That sweet & sour pork and jjajangmyeon is excellent.

No pics but had a post-LAX dinner at Jame Enoteca and the meatballs were so good. Also enjoyed the Caesar and the Cappelini pomodoro but the meatballs were definitely the standout.

Chef Daniel worked at Noma. He said Rene and the team dropped in for dinner the night before my birthday dinner. They prob did a buy out but that would have been cool to eat sushi and shoot the shit with Rene.

Doner corner

The doner sandwich is very good. All components are executed especially the doner meat and the fluffy thick pide bread. However it lacks a sauce component that I find necessary for the sandwich to come together like having burger without sauce or ketchup or a hot dog without mustard. They put in a small amount of tomato sauce which is “iskender” style but that only works on a platter where you have a ton of sauce and some yogurt or other sauce on the side. If they did that sandwich would be s tier in LA

Padiera bakery

Both the Portuguese tarts and cookies are quite good. The tart filling could be better but the laminated crust was excellent
