Marsa Lounge - Mediterranean on the Westside

“Mediterranean” is a big bucket, and yet I’ve literally only ordered one item on the menu throughout the pandemic - the beef shish kebab. Excellent marinade, very tender, well-grilled. Pretty close to spotless execution. Hummus is very good. Pita is totally forgettable; if the dry store-bought disks offend you then you’ll want something else for the hummus. Rice seems like it might be polarizing - it’s the fairly typical long-grain used in a lot of Mediterranean cuisine, but definitely more heavily seasoned than usual. I’m a fan but you might not be.

Even the side salad is good, but I’m a sucker for acidic dressings, so that’s a bit of a freebie from me.

Remarkably they claim to be open until 1 am M-Th and 2 am from Fri-Sun. I have no idea if the quality of their kitchen stays consistent that late at night, but being open that late on the Westside is already a big win.

My experience is limited to delivery (which I’ll use as an excuse for the lack of photos), but if someone wants to take a gander and explore more of their menu (or already has done) I’d be curious to hear other opinions

Definitely punches above its weight class for being in a gas station.

I tried it and I agree that the side salad was nice. I can’t recommend the chicken kabob though – it was dried out and not nicely marinated. I see what you mean about the rice being polarizing. It tasted “sweet” to me – I don’t think it had any actual sugar in it, but perhaps a heavy hand with spices like cinnamon and cloves often used in desserts – and it was not to my taste. I think the owner of the restaurant may be Tunisian and perhaps in Tunisian cuisine those spices are used to season otherwise savory dishes.

I’m not that far from the restaurant, but I guess because I was outside the immediate delivery area, I had to do a $20 minimum order, so I threw in baba ganoush and cheese bourekas. I saw a lot of people on Yelp complaining that the food was too salty and the baba ganoush was way too salty and just not that good. The cheese bourekas weren’t bad. The small salad was my favorite part of the meal.

Outside of the immediate delivery area, there is a $10 delivery fee, so a rather expensive order with delivery fee and order minimum if you are not in the immediate delivery area. I will say the food arrived hot, which was nice.

Did this place used to be on Wilshire near the McD (in Brentwood)?

Thanks for the report.

I have free delivery with a Doordash subscription. Sorry to hear about the chicken kabob - chicken always feels a bit riskier than beef but still unfortunate. Might be a one-trick pony, then.
