Ma's Kitchen Rowland Heights

We had a big family dinner scheduled at Eat Joy Food, but my wife realized they have a B rating and she refused to eat at places that do… So, last minute, we got a table for 10 at Ma’s. I continue to love this place! Big plate chicken has the most springy wide noodles. We had 8 extra orders of noodles and the waitress’s eyes nearly bulged out. The boiled lamb ribs are deliciously gamy, chewy with a mix of meat, lining, gristle and cartilage that is not for everyone but if you’re into that stuff is delightful. The beef rib dish was executed to perfection this time. Tender, but still retaining texture, with some charred bits. I think my sons and I basically ate the whole dish. Everything else was good, but honestly, didn’t really touch much of it because these three dishes are always the main event for me

“B” stands for Best food!

Health ratings are biased against Chinese restaurants. Anybody remember attempts to stamp
out Chinese roast meats and fresh rice noodles. Eating only at A rated Chinese restaurants is foolish.

indeed. something as simple as a crack in the ceiling will lower an A rating to a B.

A = superior, B= good, C = acceptable. Number instead of letter grade = bad.

Ha, I take all your points about health ratings. My wife has specific reasons why that are outside of her control. I’ll leave it at that. Is what it is.

I know you mean no harm in saying it’s “foolish” and I’ve always been a fan of your posts, but if you knew our circumstances I’m sure you would understand why we won’t eat at a B restaurants. For some, not eating at non-A Chinese restaurants (or not doing certain things that others perceive as entirely normal) is not a choice. In our case, it’s something far deeper rooted that we wish weren’t the case, but unfortunately is.

Sorry and I withdraw the comment. I’ve just heard the comment from people that I only eat at “A” graded Chinese restaurants, including people I know personally, too many times that to me in legal terms them is “fighting words”.

Hehe, no apology needed! I totally get what you were saying. Trust me, I still take my sons to B restaurants when my wife isn’t joining

And, I very much miss the “dragon whiskers” cold prep at EJF, B or not :frowning:
