Did a smorgasburg run today

Lives up the hype. Been very popular based on social media. Very reminiscent of borjstars wrap.
Shawerma griddled with pickles and garlic. Long line but worth the wait. Fries looked great but didn’t want to fill up on carbs.

Glad

I think the head chef worked at chi spacca doing focaccia di recco. I got one with spinach, bok choy and goat cheese very tasty with the herbs and green breaking up the richness of the flattened focaccia and cheese. Not as good as chi spacca but half the price. Would definitely revisit.

Also got a taiyaki croissant which wasn’t bad was mainly for the chowpup

Jon & Vinny’s (Beverly Hills)
Stopped by for a super late lunch. The BH location soft launched their new cocktail menu, where the drinks are made with wine-based spirits. The margarita wasn’t too bad…looked like a margarita and tasted like a margarita. At $16, it’s even reasonable for this neighborhood.
House salad - it is very reminiscent of an Olive Garden salad, but better. Fresher, farmer’s market vegetables, plenty of pepperoncinis for bite, and a creamy Italian dressing

LA Woman - crust is delightful…cracker crisp. The rest of the pizza is just solid. There might have been a touch too much sauce, for my taste, but the burrata and basil was nice.

Spicy fusilli - al dente pasta and nice sauce. Wish it was spicier, but maybe they adjust for the neighborhood?

Straus swirled soft serve - great chocolate and vanilla flavor, but the texture was a touch to icy for me (the soft serve I had at Joan’s on Third earlier in the day was perfect in texture)

Cheesecake - this is the richest cheesecake I’ve ever had. Rich and thick…I tapped out after 3 bites. Really great cherry compote.

Very solid lunch. Would easily return.

Lorenzo California (Beverly Hills)
I really do adore these sandwiches. Great bread, great toppings. Easy to select when you don’t know what you want.
New menu items

Farniente - it’s breakfast/brunch if you’re not ready for a proper lunch. A terrific smoked salmon sandwich. A great alternative to a smoked salmon bagel.

Lorenzo - still good, but a touch dry this visit. Would have loved more cheese.

Also made a stop to get sandwiches to go from All’Antico Vinaio, but we asked for items that would travel well…we should have opted for sandwiches with a little more moisture…as the ones we picked weren’t ideal…they got a little dry and the bread hardened up. The Toscana and the Inferno both tasted good. Will have to return for a more fair look.

WF in that mall thing on Jefferson Blvd in Playa. I am not sure how I feel about them gatekeeping the bacon but at least it’s cooked at $9.99 lb.

My local WF doesn’t seem to have a bacon buffet anymore. I went there this weekend and they just had pre made breakfast sandwiches and eggs and potatos by the pound.

BACON BAR??? Those thieves had to have heard me talking all these years to steal my reference.

OK it’s not that original. But still…

Yeah, mine does the same thing now. Stopped about 6 months ago.

it was such an easy move when having people over for breakfast: just pop by and pick up a few pounds of prepared bacon to serve to guests without having to deal with the grease and the smell of cooking it at home. i loved the bacon bar. i will miss it.
