Meal on a Delta flight from LAX

There was no meal listed in the flight details for my Delta flight to NYC tomorrow (WTF???).

Any ideas on what to get beforehand or at LAX for the flight? Departure time is 9:15AM or something like that.

Delta Lounge has decent food if you have access

+1 to the Delta Lounge. You may have access if you are flying economy (but not basic economy) and have a premium delta credit card or an Amex Platinum card.

Flying basic economy. :frowning:

Partner is thinking of making tuna sandwiches to bring w/ us on the plane. Oh, dear.

Fat Sal’s?

Looked up Fat Sal’s and then discovered (duh) that LAX has an on-line directory (including food prices)!!!

Okay, that (the directory) looks like it’ll work.

Fat Sal’s seems pretty pricey (nl for LAX), but maybe partner and I can split a sandwich…

at one point in time ink.sack was great for LAX sandwiches. Not sure what’s going on with their yelp rating these days…

There is a branch of Original Rinaldi’s at 6171 W Century Blvd., next to the Hyatt. It opens at 7 am.

I’ve gotten in the habit of ordering delivery the night before morning flights.

T3 is connected to Tom Bradley now after you clear security, if you have time for a bit of a walk. So ink.sack is an option, Border Grill, Panda Express as well. If you have access, the Amex Centurion lounge in Tom Bradley also has decent breakfast, but it tends to have a line to get in.

Pro-tip: if you’re not checking a bag, you can clear security in Tom Bradley even if you’re not flying out of Tom Bradley, pick up food, and walk over to the Delta terminal

Just no durian or leek lol…

I go a taco truck. Tortas hold exceptionally well.

If you don’t want to pay the massive LAX up-charge, getting some breakfast sandwiches from Starbucks in Terminal 3 is probably your best bet :frowning:

Tuna sounds better than current LAX offerings, tbh. Definitely wtf on no meal service, given the times. Can you update us afterwards as to whether this was just a typo perhaps? :open_mouth:

There was def no free meal service. We ended up getting spicy green bowls (or whichever bowl had the falafel) at Cava. Pretty tasty, and greens largely being kale means that the were only slightly wilt-y after a few hrs. Was about $15/bowl, which seemed pretty reasonable to me overall (and shockingly so for LAX).

We were quite pleased with our choice to go with Cava (and I found it reasuring to see flight crew ordering from there, too).

Partner remembers flight crew offering “food” for sale. I do not recall that, and neither of us inquired.

Reddit thread indicated that the only thing for sale in basic economy resembling a meal was a chicken sandwich.

It’s been ages since I’ve been to NYC, but to my knowledge, there’s no meal service unless you go first class. That’s the only time I’m offered a meal on domestic flights…outside of Hawaiian Airlines.

American offers free “meal” either a sandwich or cheese/fruit plate in a box with chips and cookie on their NY flights.

A lot of airlines offer snack boxes, cheese plates and other sort of premade ready to eat stuff. But in IME, they also run out.

Not everyone is usually scrambling the day or or even before a flight. That is why Taco Trucks are my go to, usually they are open late or I can pop by on a last minute errand (which always happens!)

Domestic flights, including the LAX/SFO - EWR/JFK transcons, typically only include meals in First and Premium Economy. Although there is food for purchase in Economy.

Can confirm that food is offered in basic economy! And we actually ordered it today.

It’s not gourmet, it’s relatively overpriced, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Both options seemed decently nutritionally balanced and weren’t overly reliant on processed foods. You can either get a cheese/fruit plate or a chicken sandwich (which also had a little bit of fresh fruit). And the chicken salad was decently seasoned, even if the texture was… not ideal.
