Anyone who is interested in watching, @m_blujay (of somni) is streaming it on IG. Not sure if his profile is private, but worth a shot
Eater LA instagram is also streaming it.
Ki Kim of the closed Kinn won best new chef just now. Kato stays at one star.
and Kato stays at 1. Bullshit.
Hurray to Somni, now to save up for a couple of years to afford it (and trying to get a reservation lol)
Kato staying at 1 doesn’t bother me so long as Saison loses its stars.
Wow, two 3 stars for LA.
3 places where I had pretty, pretty disappointing meals my last time there (within the last 12 months) lost their Michelin status. Seems like I was not the only one that has taken notice and Michelin inspectors agree.
- Father’s Office (had a bib gourmand)
- Pijja Palace (had a bib gourmand)
- Felix (no longer recommended)
And I think the biggest surprise in LA was Seline not getting a star?
I guess I’m not shocked about Seline. I didn’t like it, though it does feel like Michelin one-star dining.
I always wonder what places they visited, which is the most opaque part of this.
Did they visit both Udatsu and Kusano and decide that Kusano is guide-worthy and Udatsu is not? Or did they just not visit Udatsu?
Did they visit Sushidokoro Miyama and decide it wasn’t as good as Kisen?
Are they snubbing their noses at Kinjiro, Array 36, and Holy Basil? Do they know those restaurants exist?
Regarding Felix: they also dropped Mother Wolf. Odd to me. I’m not so sure I agree Maccheroni Republic is a better restaurant than Mother Wolf.
With you - I thought they’d star Seline even though I did not enjoy it…
And Miyama would’ve been a great add
