Monday pescatarian solo lunch on drive between Santa Monica and Santa Clarita

I need to be in Santa Clarita on Monday from 9:00 to noon. Any thoughts on a decent lunch on my drive back to Santa Monica? I’m pescatarian, but I’m open to pretty much anything culinarily.

I considered Furnsaj and Mizlala (both closed on Mondays… or not? Sources online seem to disagree), and the Original Saugus Cafe (which appears to have reopened under new ownership, and seems diminished by it), but I’m rarely out that way so nothing else is immediately leaping to mind.

Thoughts?

And Pizza Wagon is a 1/2 block away.

Thanks! Pizza Wagon has real potential! Sincerely Syria sounds great, but nothing for a pescatarian on that menu.

oh sorry forgot about that.

Hummus Bar and Grill is a lively scene at lunch and has tons of veggie options. Love the Hummus Sabich , Mediterranean salads and many of their “specialty plates”

And of course there are a plethora of valley sushi places

Getting towards my neck of the woods, so to speak.

Where are you going to be in Santa Clarita? I ask because there is Namaste Spiceland on Soledad Canyon. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options + a fish entree or two (they only started serving meat about a year ago).

I’ve had good meals at Old Town Junction in Newhall. They have a pretty solid diverse menu with pescatarian options.

Been yrs since I’ve been to some of these places and/or only went once but…

  • Peru’s Taste (Northridge): ceviche

  • Lum-Ka-Naad (Northridge): respectable Thai. Although Thai in West LA/Santa Monica has gotten so good that I don’t know if this is as interesting a draw as it might’ve been b/f

  • Baja Subs Market and Deli (Northridge): I think @JThur01 is the one who first mentioned this place? I don’t know enough about Sri Lankan to state if the food is veg friendly, and, at least many yrs ago, they were not serving Sri Lankan throughout all regular business hrs

  • Bafang Dumplings (Van Nuys): I think someone on the board had mentioned this place. They do have some veg/vegan options. Never been myself.

  • Pho So 1 (Van Nuys): I assume they should have some veg/pescatarian stuff on the menu, but that’s not what I eat there, so I don’t know. I’ve always really liked their food. A very popular hole-in-the-wall. If you are dining solo, they might place you at a big table and seat other parties at the same table.

  • Posto 896 (Encino but very close to the 405): not a lot of pescatarian stuff and might be too much $, but the one time I went, their food was so delicious that I’d trust them to do a good job w/ the few veg/fish options they have.

  • Puhica (Sherman Oaks): I like the mojarra frita there. I’ve never had anything else there.

  • Uoichiba (Sherman Oaks): I think from the person behind The Joint Seafood Market. I’ve never been to either.

  • MiDiCi (Sherman Oaks): chain Neopolitan pizza that I’ve enjoyed the few times I’ve been to few location (last visit was several yrs ago)

In the corporate-but-very-safe realm, there’s a Cheesecake Factory and a 818 Public House at the 405/101 intersection, if all else fails.

Hummus Bar and Grill is the place that came to my mind, though I haven’t been there in over 10 years.

Baja Subs serves Sri Lankan food all the time (I’ve never actually seen them serve anything else, despite the pseudo Mexican menu on the wall behind the counter) but they only have certain specialty items like string hoppers on weekends. They do a mixed veg curry plate (5 or 6 kinds of veg and lentils) and they also always have a fish curry add on option, often tuna or mackerel.

Kop Jai Lai is also good, and you could put together a fish meal.

House Roots Granada Hills is also nearby and worth a stop - my favorite coffee in the Valley and good pastries.

This one is really tempting! Generally when I’m out in the valley for Lao/Thai I go to Lum-Ka-Naad or Krua Thai. Does anybody know if Kop Jai Lai compares at all favorably to Lacha Somtum or Nok’s Kitchen down in Westminster?
