Mother Wolf

My leftover was great at breakfast the next morning.

Unfortunately their ovens and grills are broken tonight. Or maybe just issues due to the aforementioned drama above?

There could be a problem with the flues.

did they offer to reschedule?

I don’t think the ladies wanted to reschedule. Will report back about their experience.

They had fun the food was good but the menu was very limited so they had a ton of pastas.

Supposedly the ventilation system was broken the day before and filled the whole restaurant with smoke thus not being able to use the grill or the pizza oven.

So it doesn’t appear that it was a staffing issue but an actual equipment failure.

They made me an arribiata to go which apparently they don’t do to go orders. They used the rigatoni because it keeps better very delicious reheated the next day!

This 5% service fee attached to customer restaurant bills is at the heart of an investigation launched by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, and it involves some of the city’s most celebrated restaurants at the adjacent Thompson hotel, Tommie hotel and Citizen News building: Mother Wolf, Ka’teen, Mes Amis, Bar Lis and the Terrace.

Other than Mother Wolf, I am not sure “most celebrated” applies.

For me ranks the number two Italian restaurant in LA after Gucci Osteria (big gap) and slightly ahead of Osteria Mozza and Chi Spacca. Best whole branzino I’ve ever had. I would put the pizza on par with Pizzeria Mozza and Gjelina for my favorite in LA.

Haven’t tried Funke.

Going for my first visit this weekend. Taking the family before we head back to school. Based on previous posts it seems like these are the most well received
Squash blossoms
Mortazza
Panzanella salad
Pizza
Meatballs or gamberi
Vongole no longer on the menu. Need at least one pasta without black pepper. Anybody like the alla’arabbiata, vaccinara, amertriciana or putanesca?

Adding the beautiful mortazza image from the article.
God she’s a beauty.
The caption says it is from “Funke in Los Angeles” but that booth is MW. IIRC the mortazza is not (or at least was not) available at Funke.

the mortazza is one of the few mw x funke crossovers

but that booth looks to me like it’s MW, no?

the booths are similar, but i think the caption is right.

funke has horizontal channel tufting, mw has vertical channel tufting.

the marble tables at mw are also more reddish/brown vs white.

mw

funke
