As good as ever for me, last night. No misses. I liked the simple spaghetti arrabbiata. Great service.
Am I the only one that I really love their gelato? Their pistachio gelato is subtle but elegant.
I went a few nights ago as well, and it was very good. Maybe a notch beneath the heights from its opening period, but very solid.
Their gelato is amazing but crazy expensive $18 a pop. Worth it but just wild that price. I found their other desserts not as good as when Shannon Swindle was overseeing it.
Only sad part as you know is amazing gelato doesn’t come with cheap ingredients. These day rare quality milk and cream (direct source from farm) is so expensive and pistachio or any nut puree is skyrocketed after tariff and if it stays high one time, it dosen’t go back lol. I’m sure at $18 you have margin but if it’s $5 might lose the money lol (assuming making best gelato) If it wasn’t all those hidden costs to run the business in LA, even mother wolf might be able to sell around $7
they use bronte pistachios
I’m totally fine with that cost to portion ratio. I’m almost wishing they had a smaller portion for $12? the 3+ scoops is kind of excessive. Doesn’t matter though, it’s great gelato and I’m happy to indulge. I actually find the rest of the menu…fairly reasonably priced given the portions. The salad could feed a family of six frankly.
Brontes are $50.50 per 250 grams (0.55 lbs.) retail, though per the online menu they’re using Santa Barbara pistachios.
I agree the gelato portion size is excessive.
We also noted the same thing about the salad portion size — it was impossible for us to finish.
I’m mostly fine with the larger portions, but you can’t really take salad to go (or gelato). I think their goal is to be a Cheesecake Factory-level “they can’t complain bc the portions are huge” situation, and honestly it works.
My wife takes salad to go…but she takes many things to go that others would leave behind, obviously ![]()
My wife took the salad home, and then she didn’t eat it of course, because it’s day old salad.
Staying on topic – I really liked that salad, the cicoria. Bold flavored for sure – bitter (chicories), tangy (lemon), sharp and salty (pecorino), rich and fruity (olive oil), crunchy (bread crumbs).
