We just got back from 9 days on Maui where we ate poke every single day. Sometimes twice a day. We’ve been to Maui 10+ times and prefer standalone poke shops where you can order to go, either by the pound or as bowls. Not Mainland style (customize your own à la chipotle). I also sometimes like trying restaurant poke if it’s on the menu. Sorry if any of these places ran out of poke while we were there, because we might have eaten it all! ![]()
Here are my top five places. Note: They are all very good and extremely fresh. So the ranking is kind of splitting hairs. We usually ordered only the fresh (not frozen) ahi kinds. Generally, I prefer to eat Hawaiian style, shoyu, spicy, shoyu ginger, or limu.
In order of preference:
Like Poke? Truck in Kahului - note their new location on Lono Ave. I think their sweet ginger and sweet wasabi is phenomenal. The food truck court set up is also quite pleasant (real bathroom, TV, games, shade). This was my husband’s favorite.Tobi’s Poke and Shave Ice in Paia. Brightly colored shop on the main drag. They made it to order. I loved their spicy poke. I think it’s tied for first with Like Poke? for me but it’s very very close.
Kaohu Store in Wailuku (weekdays only). Also very very good. Parking is a pain. It’s strictly takeout. I like how they package the rice separate if you’re getting a bowl.
Oki’s Seafood Corner (inside Foodland Kahului). This is a family run counter inside of Foodland but independent from the grocery store. Strictly takeout.
Tamura’s (we usually go to the Kihei one, but have also gotten good poke at the Wailuku, I think are they are only two locations that remain on Maui in 2026). Also strictly takeout.
Other restaurant poke that’s worth a mention:
Lineage in Wailea - poke bites with fried spam on seaweed cracker
Ko in Wailea - seared fresh ahi on a hot rock with Mac nut inamona, chives, and a sweet smoked shoyu reduction on the side - which is basically deconstructed poke
Merriman’s in Kapalua - ahi Hawaiian poke made tableside
Tikehau Lounge in Wailea - poke plate with taro chips
Monkeypod Kitchen in Kaanapali and Wailea - poke tacos, always tell them to add a fourth so you’re not splitting three between two people!
