Reminds me of the old Raku menu
Has anyone been to the new location? I have a reservation for tomorrow and curious about what to order
welcome to ftc.
I tried it during soft opening and liked the following
sashimi moriawase
maitake tempura, green tea salt
steamed sea bass, shiitake, kombu
mentai mochi, nori, mentaiko
negima
asparagus
agedashi mochi, shrimp, shiso, wood ear mushroom
Welcome to FTC @Zadster!
Thank you so much! This all looks amazing
Adding on here for the full experience (this was from f&f)
Warm House Made Tofu
Mentai Mochi
The sauce is critical.
Brussels Sprouts and Salmon Skin
It’s a pretty common combination (brussels + crispy/fatty thing + runny egg) but it crushes.
Sashimi Moriawase
You can get great sashimi all over these days—and amongst a large menu it’d be easy to skip—but this really turned out great. My only gripe is they didn’t cook the head so we couldn’t eat the eyes
Agedashi Mochi
At risk of burning your mouth, eat this piping hot! The shrimp filling really takes it over the top.
Maitake Tempura and Asparagus
Finally, some piping hot fried mushrooms!
for the mushrooms
for the asparagus
Chicken Karaage
Doesn’t blow you away, but the floor for fried chicken is relatively high so it’s an easy order.
Jidori Tebasaki
Little—and I mean little—wings. We actually had to ask each other if chickens came this small.
Pork Belly and Potato
Bacon Tomato and Negima
Negima was a great (albeit small) bite amongst all the other chicken thigh skewers out there—i.e. it’s well executed, well cooked, and tasty.
Zabuton and Kurobuta Sausage
They were building up to this, but these were probably the best skewers of the bunch. The sausage was basically like a lunchtime hot dog but not in a bad way.
Steamed Seabass
It didn’t look like much but this was well cooked and turned out really well.
Takenoko Gohan
As far as rice courses go, this was fine. However, the crispy socorrat on the rice took it to the next level.
Nothing was transcendent, but really solid and enjoyable all around. Final verdict n/soto > n/naka.
how does it compare to kodo?
In a winner take all head-to-head n/soto’s best vs. Kodo’s best, Saba Bozushi at Kodo
However, n/soto’s floor is probably higher across the board. So I’ll need repeat visits at both.
Not sure if they are comparable, but which would be better to go to between Tsubaki and N/Soto?? I heard Tsubaki takes FOREVER for the items to come out
n/soto food came out pretty quickly–I think the only gap we had with nothing on the table was right before the rice course.
Personally, I prefer Tsubaki. But either would be a great choice.
By transitivity, Tsubaki > n/soto > n/naka.
This take is served piping hot.
not going to argue with a math major
Hero > then all!
Adding to this transitive train:
Hero > Tsubaki > n/soto > n/naka
Personally I have no business knocking/ranking n/soto in this, as I haven’t eater there yet. But I did cancel my reservation there, as I want to give them give time to settle in, and nothing anyone here has posted/photo’d looks or sounds as good as Hakata Izakaya Hero’s food.
Never heard of Hero!! Will have to check it out!!! Thanks!
I don’t refute this lol
