I think the OP said vegetarian, actually (since vegan would be a whole different ballgame).

I’d want L.A. on a plate. Since the Guerrilla brick and mortar location won’t be open quite yet, I suggest Gjelina.

My friend and I are floored by the generousness of all of you in your responses. This thread has serendipitously also become the “FTC Last Meal in L.A.” thread, it would appear…

Langer’s would have to be a very early dinner!

Not vegan, vegetarian.

I forgot that when I suggested Park’s. Vegetarians and omnivores could all eat very well at Majordomo, Osteria Mozza, and, ironically given the meat focus, Chi Spacca.

Ok. Go to el prado and have some wine, then go to Bar Bandini and have some Wine, then go to Tabula Rasa and have some wine or beer or vermut, pick up a case of light beer and go to Pailin.

This would be my idea, too. I don’t anything about the food scene in Austin (I imagine it’s very good), but I think, if I were leaving, I want to have the food that I’d miss most (which can sometimes even about the ambiance of an eatery or a location, vs. just the food itself).

Providence does a wonderful vegetarian tasting menu…

Dang - I think the hardest thing is that there are so many choices here! Yes, Austin (from what I hear, haven’t been) is incredible. But LA does have some unique fun.

For old school LA - Musso and Franks. Nothing quite like it and, the vegetarian can have their killer tomato bisque. And martini’s are vegetarian too, yes? ; )

Take over someones apartment and get fresh steamed dungeness crab to eat at home. It’s a specific west coast thrill, to be able to have that live crab and have it cooked fresh. Amazing. Then add any sides you want.

And I also rec pm dim sum. Before Lunasia, I’d just get lots of good quality dim sum midday, and resteam it at home, at night. With rice, veggies and wine. Pretty darn close to perfection. But now you have the option of Lunasia, where nice quality dim sum is available to you fresh, at night, at a restaurant that also offers beer, wine and sake.

Lucques has been mentioned already I think, and should be. A fab Californian restaurant. And for the best bang for your buck? To be able to add in killer wine? Hit their sunday supper. Always grand, they will work with vegetarians and if you are on the patio the restaurant is just so pretty and LA.

You are a great friend. May your night, and your friends new life - be incredible.

This time of year, if you can find live Dungeness crab I believe it would be coming from Alaska.

Robert,

I may be picking some crab up on Sunday. If I do, I’ll post where it’s from (this store tends to get them from Canada most of the year.)

Maybe go to Shin Sen Gumi in Torrance (i believe the Original location) eat yakitori, drink beers. spend money on a good raucous time!

I don’t think Paul Qui has been associated with Uchi or Uchiki-ko for a few years.

That said, neither Uchi nor Uchi-ko can touch Shunji.

Robert,

Amazingly enough, the crabs were marked “Wild Caught/USA.”

Looked about 2 pounds each.

Thought the sale ended tonight, turns out that’s for produce. LA peeps, you can get these crabs through 6/12 :+1:
