Hi there, my partner and I are going to the air show at Miramar Marine Corps Base this Sunday and need a casual place for dinner. We are staying in the Comfort Inn near there and it would be great if we don’t have to drive too far for dinner; we’re driving down from Santa Clarita early that morning so it will be a long day for us.
I can’t eat anything spicy so Mexican/Latin food is out. My partner can have seafood except for shrimp, and he doesn’t care much for sushi. We both can’t drink alcohol so any place that just has “bar” food doesn’t appeal to us, unless it’s really good.
I looked at Google maps and don’t see much that is very close. Italian, Chinese, BBQ, American, etc. would be great. Any and all recs are very much appreciated.
You are not too far from Convoy Street which has many different types of Asian restaurants ranging from Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Ramen etc.
For great house-made pasta we really like Cucina Basilico in Kearny Mesa
Thanks for this rec. The menu looks great and it’s only 7 miles from the inn. My partner is Italian so comfort food is always good for him after a long day.
Cucina Basilico was a great rec. We both had pasta–and so many sauces to choose from! Mine was penne with pesto and his was linguine with aglio e olio. The penne was dense and the pesto was very fresh. My partner really liked the linguine and and we both noticed the whole garlic cloves, roasted just enough to chew, not mushy. We had to have dessert and loved the chocolate cake, and the beautiful presentation as well. Service was great and the restaurant was intimate and not noisy, which we appreciated after the day at the air show. We may come down again next year for the air show, and possibly before as well.
