Hi there, I’m taking my partner to tour San Simeon (he’s never been there), and celebrating NYE and his birthday as well (born 15 minutes after midnight!). Since the castle is closed New Year’s day, we will probably drive up on 12/30, stay for 2 nights and leave that day. I would appreciate any suggestions for great meals but easy on the $$.
I haven’t been there in about 20 years so I’m sure there are some changes to existing restaurants and if there are any new ones worth going to. I saw the last post that said the Sea Chest has gone down hill and am now sorry I didn’t get there before. The only place I remember eating at was Linn’s, and I hope it is still as good as I remember.
I can’t handle anything spicy and my partner will eat almost anything. I haven’t figured out where we’ll stay but definitely on Moonstone Beach. Any suggestions about that is also appreciated.
I know you said inexpensive, but… Only went there once quite a few yrs ago, but we enjoyed our meal at Black Cat Bistro. Appropriately upscale for a b-day dinner w/o being overly fancy/pretentious.
If Morro Bay is not too far, we really like Mi Casa there.
Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I looked at the Black Cat menu and while it looks interesting and creative, I could only eat half of the dinner menu (ingredient issues), and my partner can’t eat shrimp. I have no problem driving to Morro Bay but Mi Casa is Mexican and sadly I just can’t handle spice. That limits me to maybe one or two items and that’s just not worth the bother.
Thanks for this suggestion, it’s definitely doable. Lots of options to choose from for both of us. It’s interesting that the Early Dinner menu doesn’t replicate the later one. Lacking any other suggestions that work, I can see us eating there both nights.
I’m going up next week. Brydge and Robin’s are my two favorites. You can also check Paso Robles for additional places. It’s a 30-40 min drive from Cambria.
Thanks for these recs. I vaguely remember eating at Robin’s the last time I was there…or maybe we didn’t. Anyway, these are possibilities for lunch and/or dinner. Driving to PR is out of the question, I did that drive years ago during the daytime and swore I wouldn’t do it at night. There are a few restaurants there I’d like to go to again so it may be to add a day to our trip.
