Jeff’s Table
My Feeling about Jeff’s Table is the same. Totally MEH. I much prefer the Heights Deli Tuna sandwiches. Their Tuna is even better than Bub and Grandma’s
+1 Jeff’s Table’s menu reads great, but the sandwiches don’t quite live up. I’d pretty much always go to Villa’s, El Faro, La Palma, Kitchen Mouse instead.
I regret not going to Mariscos El Faro!
What is the sandwich filling supposed to be? chicken and…?

Shredded slow-cooked citrus-brined Mary’s chicken breast, sliced avocado, green-chili-citrus aioli, lemon, wild arugula, olive oil
The whole menu looks great on paper. The bread was horrible. No outside crust/crunch. A toasted Subway roll would be better. It was the softest roll I ever had and pretty bland tbh
What do you recommend at Kitchen Mouse. I just noticed their place infront of the Superior which has grown on me….
Jeff’s Table is not good value either smh.

Morning glory bowl (very tangy)
Moros cakes
Gomasio cakes
Macaroni and cheese (very yeasty)
Le Labo coming to Fig and 56. Crazy how quick that block turned. Also that Mendo is stunningly empty whenever I walk past it.
I got the Hainan chicken salad sandwich the other day and was similarly unimpressed. No flavor apart from very mild chili oil on very boring, spongy bread.

Speaking of Cookbook, I saw that Meiji Tofu sells to them? Every time I pass through Torrance/Gardena I make sure to get a soft tofu. Wondering if Cookbook might carry the everyday soy milk too, so I can just make my own ginger dou jiang.
No, they do not carry the soy milk IME. They mainly carry a small amount of the Firm, Soft and Supreme. I find the most Meiji items at Toyko Central. Strangely enough at the Redondo Beach Bl Location vs. the Larger Artesia Bl Location. Also, the Nijiya in Little Tokyo carries Meiji (I am not sure if the Sawtelle Location does, I know in years past they didn’t) but it’s a blessing for me since Nijiya LT is so close to the train station there.
I don’t think I ever ate in Eagle Rock tbh.
Got tickets to Bob Baker! I am so happy this is still going on. I still remember my class field trip to Bob Baker as a kid and how happy it made me.
Right across from Kumquat Coffee which I don’t think I had. Doors open at 10am so I might just skip breakfast. Or maybe hit up Little Fish for congee?

Kumquat is pretty exceptional imo, both espresso drinks and pour overs are basically always on point, and their bean selection is usually interesting. Cold brew too.
There are some solid breakfast burritos across york, but nothing special imo and otherwise morning options are pretty limited. The chilaquiles at Highland Cafe were pretty decent as of a few years ago. You could dip over to highly likely or kitchen mouse on Fig. Or there’s always Armon’s (Eagle Rock’s 60-Year-Old Diner Serves Breakfast Basics and Killer Thai Food - Eater LA)
I think the pretty obvious breakfast here is Bub and Grandma’s! I like their chorizo brekkie sandwich a lot. I second Kumquat being really good. Though I miss the days when their indoors was open. I will always miss those days
Kumquat doesn’t have much food, but yeah will echo them as great coffee people. Be ready for the line.
I think Delia’s is the best breakfast spot nearby tbh. Or lunch.
