Simon seafood truck moving to York. Sheesh gang, HLP food scene is heating up!!!
I wonder if this is because that guy’s restaurant Carnal is in the area too. Less back-and-forth. Also, I found the brunch at Carnal to be pretty heavy but their jamaica was the best I’ve ever had. Has anyone tried dinner there?
Better parking situation too probably
I was planning on doing dinner there tomorrow, but the World Series might keep me home. I’ll report if I go
Dodgers won, I raced to frontera, took a celebratory shot with the owner. Gosh I like this city
What a game! One for the books.
#Doyers
Las Cazuelas, bean and cheese(follow your heart), and loroco and cheese (follow your heart). I like these! No skimping on the filling and had to wait like 5 minutes before ripping a piece off due to how piping hot they were. Delmy’s at Atwater Farmers also does a vegan pupusa (also the Atwater location is the only Delmy’s doing the blue corn).
Kumquat Coffee, The Harvest (oat milk, pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potato, spices, espresso).
Anyone else doing a good seasonal latte?
Reverent in PV does a great seasonal pumpkin rosemary
Delmy’s Pupusas Atwater Farmers. Blue corn masa with veggies/beans (vegan, sin crema).
Also got a fresh squeeze OJ.
Pupusa and juice is the official farmers market meal.
Masa Catalina. Also at Atwater FM. Filipino x Mexican. Ube cinnamon roll! Definitely hit the spot!
Been wondering about this . What jelly you think this would pair well with? Or skip the jelly? Thinking of using those thick bread from Cream Pan. Featuring McCoy Tyner-Atlantis courtesy of Arroyo Records and Midori Takada-Through The Looking Glass courtesy of Sibylline Records.
Pass by Ggiata Deli super tempted but I was stuff from lunch at SGV and farmers market breakfast.
Bob Baker has a new winter show!
I say go goth with some Wilkin & Sons (Tiptree) Black currant jam
Love that black sesame butter. I skip the jelly with it. I love it with some raspberries or strawberries and whipped cream
I would not pair that stuff with jelly. It’s perfect on its own. Big complex flavors. Great with ice cream.
It’s really good on bananas and apples
I say skip the jelly. It goes great on a good piece of toast (Bub & Grandma’s, Saffy’s, etc.). It’s also good on vanilla ice cream.
It’s great on pancakes.
It’s great! Bit of a splurge at $15.
It’s an available at Sip Snack on York. Check out the tin fish section if you are into that!
Agreed that jam wouldn’t be necessary…but if you wanted to pair it, maybe a not-too-sweet kaya? Or mashed and (if needed) slightly sweetened ube? A tiny little drizzle of honey might be good too.
Carnal. Everything looked and seemed very promising. This is an ambitious restaurant that is trying hard. Sorry to say, I found the food generally inedible. Too sour, too salty, too strong. Peony felt similarly.
You try the mushroom dish? I liked that. I admittedly had a pretty mixed meal there recently. (My first time having dinner there.) I like their masa dishes. Their tuna dish was one of the worst things I’ve eaten at a restaurant in a long time.
Also, I mean no offense by this but do you generally like Mexican food? Because you also didn’t like Komal, which I find exemplary. I find that my own bias is to be too complimentary for Mexican food because I just generally dig all the flavors and a little too critical on Thai, which, when it’s even a little bit off, I can’t stand.
I think Mexican food is outstanding. I eat it twice a week or so. I didn’t dislike Komal. I just found the one quesadilla I tried there bland, which is definitely better than soaked with too much vinegar and salt. I plan to go back. It’s one of those restaurants I have a gut feeling I could be wrong about. But I try to review restaurants sincerely instead of influenced by everyone else. See RVR. Carnal? Sorry to say, I don’t think I can ever come to terms with that. The thing about Carnal though is I could see them making some miracle dish that is like All the Young Dudes.
