Rule of Thirds / Bin Bin Sake carry some interesting Zev Rovine selections a la Terada Honke. At least one staff member moonlights at a nice shochu bar or two.
I met Rovine at Asoko the other night.
Tons of weddings happen at Rule of Thirds, I’ve even attended a comedy show there before. It’s definitely a big space. I used to go quite often when I lived nearby and I don’t do brunch often but their brunch is definitely one of my favorites, one of the few that had me going back. The Japanese soufflé pancake with black sesame ice cream is a nice finish.
Duck looks fantastic
All three courses were great. Kind of wished for perilla, herbs, and sliced jalapeños with the ssam.
The gnocchi sounded good too, though I get what you mean about the combination.
L’industrie was good but no better than some places without the line. What a hellhole inside. At least they’re fast. Ate it at Talea and drank some good beer, a strawberry sour and a nitro stout.
Arroz negro (shrimp, calamari, white fish, scallops, piquillo peppers, fava beans, squid ink sofrito) at Socarrat Midtown. Plenty of nice socarrat. Maybe the best paella I’ve had in the US.
High praise!
Well … more like low bar? Most paella in the US is just wrong, like most carbonara or melons. Hit the spot nevertheless. For my taste it could have used more garlic, but they provided a squirt bottle of aioli.
Ha’s Snack Bar
egg mayonnaise: surprisingly spicy.
chanterelle toast
puntarelle: brilliant fusion
The oxtail seemed almost straight-up French. Maybe a hint of spices in the sauce. Or not,
Quince cobbler. Really good.
lunch at Barbuto
A friend raved about the kale salad. It was good but I’ve had the “massaged” style before so wasn’t as impressed as my friend.
Bucatini alla carbonara: good but for my taste the egg was too runny, I don’t think it should puddle at the bottom.
Quince-ginger sorbetto, very good.
It’s a nice space on a sunny day.
Nice! I would say that’s my favorite food court in NYC. Great choice, also a fan of that Uyghur spot, it really hits the spot after a long ride on the 7 to Flushing. Definitely recommend some fresh hand-pulled noodles in that food court before you leave
For the best paella, go to Ironbound, Newark.. you can take the Path train there from WTC.
Fornos of Spain - MENU - Fornos Of Spain (my personal favorite, went here my whole life)
Spanish Tavern - Spanish Tavern Newark – Fine Wine & Fine Food
Casa d’Paco Menus | Spanish Tapas Restaurant in Newark NJ
In the area, you also have Krug’s Tavern, old school dive bar with a nice burger. Plenty of great hole in the wall Portuguese churrasqueria bbq I can recommend as well. ![]()
No samsa?
Interesting, I think I prefer New York Food Court.
I think one of my friends got those, they’re on the table. We split up to buy, then shared everything. Three different kinds of noodles, all good.
So glad you hit up Queens.
What a special place imo. So much culture and one of the best places in the US for food.
Absolutely agree, it’s always a treat.. Queens is a true melting pot still and the ultimate place for a food crawl, 4th largest city in America
Flushing - best Chinese food
Elmhurst - best Thai food
Woodside - best Filipino food
Astoria - best Greek food, Astoria also has a great Little Egypt
Corona - your Latin American quarter for Colombian/Ecuadorian/Mexican food
Jackson Heights - best Himalayan/Tibetan spots in this area, get your momos here. Also, great Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani spots here.
South Ozone Park/Richmond Hill - best Indo-Caribbean food in Little Guyana, primarily Trinidadian.. you can also find great old school Italian joints around here like Don Peppe, or hit up Howard Beach for some clam houses.
Great KTown on Northern Blvd in Flushing/Murray Hill as well
And I always recommend for everyone to go to Queens Night Market at least once, everything there is under $6
