Nov. 2025 NYC trip report

Went back to Smithereens to try more of the menu. I was disappointed to see the fried whiting was gone, the people next to me last time had it and it looked great.

Tuna. I’m not big on crudo but this was great. They could bottle the sauce. Perfect level of spiciness.

Amberjack. Combination with the persimmon and shiso was surprising and good.

Scallops. Good but my appetite was flagging and I found the fried chestnuts too much.

Rice with clams and chowder. Intense and deep.

Freshly fried hot cider doughnut. Who could resist?

Maybe next trip to NY I can get some fried fish there.

Made it to three of them. Also sat next to a (the?) Saint Urban wine buyer at Blue Ribbon Brasserie.

Neglected to post about Superiority Burger.

I didn’t eat this right. Didn’t realize there was an eggplant sauce? at the bottom until I’d eaten my fill.

Fries were the standout. Superior even by NYC’s standards.
