Didn’t have the affordance to try one of (what I understand to be) the top-3 sushi spots in NY (Sho, Yoshino, and Noz) for a proper dinner, so booked a lunch for 2 at an outpost.
Noz Market does an $80 lunch omakase from Friday - Sunday: 8 pieces and miso soup, with optional a la carte afterwards (single pieces of nigiri range from $7-20, average ~$10, they also have temaki). They also have table seating and a separate hand-roll bar (which might be walk-in only; unclear).
Pickles
Hirame(?)
Seared Scallop
(I think this was described as “orange clam scallop”, but I am pretty sure it wasn’t aoyagi…)
Aji
One of the best pieces of aji I’ve had.
Magurozuke
Salmon
House-made miso
Kanpachi
Sesame
Ikura
Yamaimo
Chutoro
Crab miso
(Bonus rounds)
Shima aji
Iwashi
Tachiuo
Kohada
(End bonus rounds)
Tamago
Monaka
Maybe the best grape I’ve ever had.
If I had to nitpick, I’d say the rice was a bit too loose (and maybe a tiny bit too wet), but overall very good, easily competes with tier 2 spots in LA for like half the price. Even better, “as a Japanese establishment, there is no tip line”. And no service charge, either!
