Fitchi from Turkmenistan, truly delicious. Meat pies you might find in bazaars or street stalls. The Armenian owners of the new Oasis Mediterranean Restaurant in North Hollywood, which recently turned over from Yerevan Steak House, spent a good chunk of their life in Turkmenistan. Cool to see them bring this food here. The chef is also part-Georgian and added a bunch of food from Armenia’s neighbor to the menu.

Wow!

The best LA/Southern California blogger/social media account! You always find the deep cuts. There is no other LA food blog/social media account that is actually taking the time to document and taste dishes from all different cultures. Especially with a respect to the different regions/specialties within a cuisine. How has Eater LA not do a little article on eattheworldla?

Shout out also to David Chan and foodmento too!

I actually wrote a couple articles for Eater LA! Fun experience.

SF Gate wrote an article about an interview with me, that was also fun.

I wish I could get out more, but it is all just a hobby and prices are so crazy these days. I love learning about all the foods I know nothing about and getting reacquainted with ones I had during travels.

Thanks as always for the extremely kind words @JeetKuneBao

Perhaps I’ve not been lucky as of late.

We hit Pasta Sisters in Culver City while out and about…lunchtime today, and it wasn’t exactly busy.

The angula salad was fine. Tasty greens, tangy dressing, zesty cheese, toasted walnuts…some avocado…perfectly fine.

The rest of the meal was…I don’t know what the hell was going on.

The pastas, both porcini tagliatelle and bottarga spaghetti, were too al dente. I didn’t think it possible for fresh pasta to be this al dente…like they pulled this pasta 5 minutes before the suggested cooking time and only dropped it in the sauce for 60 seconds-kind of al dente. While the bottarga tasted good, the porcini sauce was skimpy…almost like they used half the amount of sauce they used to. And to top it off, the pastas did not arrive pipping hot to our table. We only took 2 minutes to finish our salad and by the time we got to the pastas they were lukewarm at best.

The roasted broccoli we got fared about the same. Lukewarm.

It was a rather unsatisfying lunch.

Maybe there’s a reason why the patio and restaurant were only about a quarter full when we arrived at noon. Folks must going elsewhere. Anyone else been lately?

Sad to hear it. I had a lovely meal at their West Adams location a few months ago, although I admit more likely to hit Truffle Bros during the week. I haven’t been to the Culver City location in well over a year since Intro’ing my Team to Sunday Gravy which they love and is closer to us. Cheesy Garlic Bread wins all the time.

I still haven’t been to Al Dente on Pico either. The one time I was around that area and able to pop in they were out on Vacation (which they deserve). Still haven’t popped by, but my Brother who works nearby went after we missed out and he LOVED it.

It’s brutal out there. I stopped myself from picking up Shake Shack on the way home last night because it was something like $27 for just two burgers.

Lunch today at BreadHead was $32 for two half sandwiches! Their Jambon Buerre is damn good.

Use the app - Shake Shack usually has pretty good deals. There are also usually discounts if you have Wells Fargo or Chase CC. It’s definitely gotten more expensive to eat at Shake Shack. Our family of 4 used to be able to eat for ~$50 a few years ago and now it’s closer to ~$80 even with the deals.

I think Sundays they have BOGO chicken sandwiches.

Keep forgetting to try this place (I work really close by). I go to Ludivine w/ some regularity, and this place is just down the street…. Thanks for the reminder.

@CiaoBob San Diego, but thought it was okay to post on the LA board as their are locations in SGV.

I forgot, do the various location vary in quality? My vague memory is that they can. I wonder if that’s why he asked (and, BTW, how was it?).

looks great

I often got to the SWBBQ at the Van Nuys at 99 Ranch to scratch the itch if I don’t want to drive to SGV.

@paranoidgarliclover I’ve only ever been to the Alhambra, San Gabriel and SD locations and think they are fairly similar in quality with the caveat that LA Chinese food is way above SD in general.

I go to SW a lot. Just good non fancy affordable comfort food.

FTC is great because I get to experience really expensive amazing looking food vicariously but I rarely eat that way myself.
