Congrats to those who got a reservation! If you like Sei-style pizza you are in for a treat!

I like the pizzas at Sei and everything this night was, at minimum, great. Yes, that prawn pizza was very enjoyable for me. One of my favorites of the nights! I started with eating in tandem but quickly switched to eating together once I could easily get it in one bite.

I’ve had the Mala Lamb, the Margherita Special, and the Hailey which are still all awesome pizzas. First time trying the Potato with Caviar and they worked really well together!

The Marinara special was also amazing. Such an intense burst of flavor on that first bite. :drooling_face: Tuna is not quite the same as the one in Savoy apparently but I really enjoyed the sweetness in aroma and taste. I think the 90s pizza hut was also really interesting but just overshadowed enjoyment-wise because I liked the others so much more. Great pizza everywhere.

Normally when I go to Sei I’m alone and can only get one or two pizzas so it was really nice to try other things too! Also awesome to see the chef’s creativity on display while getting all the greatest hits. Strongly recommended. The only thing I want at this point is for another slice of those delicious pizzas. :drooling_face:

I believe that guest chef from Savoy, Bun-san, is there until this Monday, 5/27 only.

So what’s the play for 2 who are not doing the Omakasei? Special marinara, for sure, and one other - the Hailey 1.0? Any appetizers that are really good right now or should we just go for a 3rd pizza?

I thought that the special marinara was omakaSei only, but I see that a food blogger got it outside the tasting menu:

Excited to try these corbarino tomatoes. Apparently, they are 1 of the 3 permissible tomato varieties to be used for authentic Pizza Napoletana according to the AVP (the other 2 being San Marzano and Piennolo).

My understanding is that the tomatoes for the special marinara are in short supply so outside of Omakasei I’m not sure you can be guaranteed an order. Would probably need some pull to coax one out of them is my guess. I think that IG account is close to the chef? I follow him too and I think he makes a special stop in basically every time he’s in LA. As for Hailey, I think that’s also dependent on ingredient availability. I understand the weekend leading in to Omakasei 1 the ingredients weren’t available for it and it couldn’t be ordered. So not sure it’s regularly available.

I think @moonboy403 recommends the funghi crostini? I personally recommend the special margarita and Mala Lamb if you wanted two red pizzas. The potato is also available on normal menu.

All good, yeah I understand they may be out of the normal rotation. I don’t follow that IG account but have seen it restoried. I think he runs/ran a food blog called “3 Star Dining” or something with emphasis on Michelin destinations, so perhaps he has some industry connections/pull. Yes I’ve heard good things about the mala lamb. Thanks for your thoughts. Will report back!

Thanks to a kind word put in, I got to try the special marinara. Really delicious. Those corbarino tomatoes are special indeed. Intense sweetness, fairly bright but not super acidic, good umami, moist, with soft skins. Thanks to those who made it happen!


Great moisture - not too floppy, but lots of olive oil.

Funghi crostini with lardo, chives, aged vinegar, etc. Nice bite on the maitakes.

Wagyu calzone with giardineria. Wth onions and a little bit of peppers. This thing was actually quite huge. Big cheesesteak vibes. Really satisfying!
