Semi-related, this is an interesting (though flawed, as it starts at the beginning of June) animation of cases by state, broken out by republican/democratic leadership:
And by state, starting in March:
All of his Covid-related charts:
I noticed that in the “Modeling Covid-19…” article, seasonal pneumonia was mentioned several times as a covariate. I’m a little surprised that seasonal influenza wasn’t also mentioned in that sense. In any case, it seems prudent for all to get both this year’s flu shot and a pneumonia shot (which is permanent) if they haven’t already, especially older people.
The just-announced official Trump administration policy is to ignore the covid pandemic entirely, with no further intervention, other than hoping that researchers manage to validate a vaccine and/or treatment that can be released under emergency authorization almost immediately after accelerated testing. And then convincing the public that the day after it’s approved is the day the covid problem is over.
Hopefully the current administration’s view is a “just for now” thing and a responsible national covid strategy will come into being in late January.
Until then, though, there will be a lot of people dying ignored.
Trump’s chief of staff making an off-the-cuff remark on a TV show is not an official announcement. The administration has no policy beyond letting the states fend for themselves.
OK, well I should have put the word policy in quotes. But DT didn’t challenge what his chief of staff said.
What Trump doesn’t say means even less than what he does say.
Maedows hasn’t said it “accidentally”. It might not “official” policy but “advisors” like Scott Atlas pretty mich say the same and have heavily influenced Trumps approach towards Covid over the last several months
They’re doing nothing and have no policy. Lots of potential statements fit that context. All Trump himself really cares about is denying responsibility and pretending he’s been doing great.
On ”natural experiments” and Covid-19 antibodies:
All naturally-occurring incidents that provide determinative data useful towards understanding the phenomenology of covid spread and having the potential to advance science-based countermeasures are of interest, although it’s sad that these events happen in the first place.
Interesting article.
New data shows that at least in Europe most of the current wave is a new mutation.
Not clear if it is more transmissible than the original virus or if it is more or less deadly.
People who wanted to re-elect DT wanted to in effect follow Dr. Tengell’s approach (Sweden) to covid. They don’t want masks, restrictions, failing companies, failing restaurants & pubs, and so many lost jobs due to those measures. They wanted their kids in real schools. Damn the torpedos. It came down to food on the table: Economy.
People who wanted Biden wanted decency, honesty, and integrity in government and an open mind to controlling covid, following wherever science leads, even if it meant business restrictions, “mandated” masks, and even lockdowns. They were amenable to following Dr. Fauci’s lead. Watchful of torpedos. It came down to not infecting and thereby possibly leading to the deaths of their elderly grandparents with covid: Health.
Sweden’s similar to Trumpists in not mandating masks etc. (in part due to a lack of any legal basis for doing so), but not in pandemic denial.
IMO, people who actually, really, deny that there’s a very nasty new virus out there and going around, are living in another universe from reality.
There are around 69 millions in the US alone who fit that profile
Pathetic.
Not the word I would use for them but somehow fits
