Refrigerate cherry tomatoes?

I have always followed the orthodoxy that you never refrigerate tomatoes. I got a couple of cherry tomatoes packets from Harry’s Berries though, which say to refrigerate. Is that really what you’re supposed to do for cherry tomatoes?

We refrigerate the Harry’s Berries cherry tomatoes as well as the little Japanese tomatoes I get from another farmers market vendor whose name I’m forgetting. Saves them from the fruit flies and they last longer. No effect on the taste as far as i can tell, as long as you let them get back to room temperature before serving.

You might try washing them in a light water & vinegar solution like you can with berries if you want to keep them out. It does seem odd to refrigerate tomatoes

Tomatoes with more flesh and less seed jelly, like the standard ones here, are more likely to suffer textural degradation than varieties with very little flesh and more seed jelly, like the cherries.
