Rib Tips and Ribs? Where to Eat It?

RIP the place off Adams and Fairfax that was a smoker and a walk up burger window (can’t remember name woodys?) they used to make great rib tips but I believe the father passed away.

philips rib tips are ok, go early or they tend to be dry. But I find that to be the case for all of philips bbq.

Bludsos does my favorite tips in town. Pretty consistent. I still need to try Slab, as I really liked his driveway pop-up back in the day.

I recently tried Ribtown and wanted to love the place, but the tips were really dry, flavorless and lacked even a remote hint of smoke. I caught them at the very end of the day, so maybe I just got the scraps… :pensive:

Haven’t been since the pandemic but Moo’s is still chugging along and taking preorders, though I think they’re sold out for next weekend already. They often do beef ribs as a special.

Think you’re right, that’s the only place I can think of for that location. We liked their beef ribs a lot.

I live close enough to J&J that I could call in an order and by time I drove over, it would be just packaged up. Super nice people, very good food. It wasn’t the best in town, but it was in the upper tier for me. The husband dying was so unexpected, such a shame. The son tried to carry on but the quality and consistency just wasn’t there.

FWIW, the pnn food service I posted about carries pork and beef rib tips for a low price. I made a batch myself, so for anyone that wants to try making it yourself, it’s worth ordering some and trying. Only $5 for a 2lb pack. I got four pounds and did a 4.5 hour at 250. Came out great, meaty and fat rendered well from the cartilage.

the reigning champ on beef back ribs is definitely Matiki Island BBQ

I always try to stop at matiki in OC but they seem to have very limited hours

they used to have a 2nd 3rd location but looks like it didn’t make it :frowning:

/edit

Looks like Anaheim and Fullerton still alive with South Gate down for the count.

Maitiki! I love the Flintstones beef ribs, the salad (mostly for the dressing), and the MAC SALAD is the best. I don’t know how they do it but it ain’t cheap mayo based. God I love that place.

I L O L at L&L

What??!!!???!!

I mourn for all those scoops of Mac down the trash.

Yeah man I don’t like their version of mac salad at all. I vastly prefer the 4 bites I could handle of L&L’s overly mayo’d version

I’ve driven by so many times. I guess I need to try it out.

2nd location in Fullerton still open.

I actually don’t understand how L&L stays in business, I’ve been on Oahu and there are a ton of L&Ls on the island but no one actually buys any food from them and I’ve never seen very many people patronizing their establishments. I’ve been starting to wonder if it’s a front for illegal activity lol

It’s the best plate lunch imo!

Matiki beef so meaty. It’s not just they do it well, but for beef back ribs, they give you so much more meat it seems like compared to other places.

???!!! There’s no such thing as bad hawaiian mac salad. It’s still hawaiian mac salad, just different degrees of goodness.

Nods vigorously yes, yes you do.

That’s my default assumption for any cash heavy business that depends on high volume low ticket total orders. There’s a frozen yogurt place near me that took three years to open and the whole time they’ve been open, I never see more than a few people at most in there even at normal high traffic times like weekend nights or after school, usually it’s empty. I figure they’re laundering money.

J&J. But there is another BBQ joint close by to that location, JR’s, which is just below Adams near where Fairfax melds into La Cienega. I haven’t been to either in years but J&J was the one with the great rib tips, the burger window, and the father who passed away.
