Saam @ Bazaar

I was wondering if anyone has been there lately, not counting the truffle dinner?
A friend wanted to try a fine dining experience and suggested it.
I have not been there since about 2012 or so and wonder if it is worth it?

Knowing that the restaurant was going to be shut down and re-conceived, I decided to go for my first and last meal at Saam (which I learned is pronounced like “Sam” and not “Sahm” as I had somehow assumed).

Highlights:

Frozen corn floret with huitlacoche

Uni donut

Apple merengue “white bread” with foie and Harry’s berries

Octopus tart

“Cheescake” in quotes that tasted just like a delicious cheesecake not in quotes\

Service was attentive. All the dishes were good to great. Not all smash hits, but nothing inedible or head-scratching. A very fun, creative, and delicious meal at the end of the day. Very glad I did not succumb to the $75 “truffle of your own” upsell. Some of the dishes they were shaving truffles over on other tables looked like they were gilding the lily. Happy to have caught Saam before it went away. Very intrigued to see what Chef Zabala will be doing with Somni.

Thanks for the report. After having visited Bazaar Mar a few months back, I am eager to see what is next from this group.
