San Laurel

I’m struggling to understand why this costs $300 per person.

It’s actually $316.63 and it does seem pricey for “passed seasonal bites” and paella.

Weekend lunch was exquisite. I think San Laurel is the most underrated restaurant in LA.

San Laurel remains as good as always (minus the first month it opened, when it was a notch better). Good flavors, good ingredients, good execution. I still consider it the most underrated restaurant in LA. But it seems to be doing well.

Asparagus, seasonal soup, gambas, mushrooms, 5J jamon iberico de bellota. Enjoy!

Too much catching up with out of towners plus time limit to get to the show I didn’t really have a chance to look at the menu and only ordered my main. Had a very decent meal there, through the lens of a restaurant it was pretty good through lens of a hotel restaurant it was phenomenal. The flavors were very good but kinda safe, technical cooking was precise. Gambas and steak came out perfect, lamb was good, fish was slightly over but not by much.

wish I had got some of the fan favorites but alas no time, we also had fish, lamb, “Mac and cheese”, the cracker, peas, and some other stuff and wine

Would be my rec if you ever go to concerts at the performing arts theaters or Walt Disney concert hall

W: this restaurant or Tomat?

P: this restaurant. Tomat is more “good neighborhood restaurant.”

W: yeah I already knew we’d agree.

Nice meal here last night. Not cheap, but not offensive

Good:
Lamb, duck, eggplant, mushroom. Pan con tomate, especially the olive oil with it

Miss:
Heirloom tomato, too early for tomatoes

Expensive:
Jamon, Australian black truffle

They had a duck tartare special, but kitchen declined to serve it, saying it didn’t meet their standards, which I respect,

Mango/passion fruit with coconut snow and mochi was a nice light dessert. Chocolate mint also nice.

Saw someone get the Louis the XIII service. Surprisingly this has gone down in price from earlier, “only” $100 for a half ounce.

Very busy when we arrived, cleared out quickly before 8

Understandable, as many customers are rushing to make curtain time on the performance arts just across the street…

Yeah, it has a built-in customer base from the hotel plus a regular pre-concert crowd. as a result, it’s always fairly lively. i would definitely make a reservation rather than take my chances on a table at, say, friday at 6 p.m. but for whatever reason (location, price?), it doesn’t seem to have garnered much support from the LA foodie community / journalists.
