dishes take three to five minutes to cook, yielding an entire whole tray with around 15 servings.
It’s a steam-table layout.
Gindaco Highball opened in the same strip mall w/ Wanderlust, Seoul Tofu, Volcano Tea, et al.
Tacoyaki, grilled pork belly/veggie sticks, oden, some sushi, fruity looking drinks
Same ownership as Tori-Soba Sumiya
Big chain in Japan
Is Artelice closed? Looks like the windows have “paper” in them.
Looks like a remodel…
I read the paper on Saturday. They’re remodeling and listed today 1/7 as the reopen date.
Kojima now open. Decided to skip that yesterday to try Midoh for the first time yesterday (and I like their curry significantly more than I do Cocoichibanya’s). So sad to see so few people in Midoh. ![]()
Kaz Soba has given up the ghost. Already fully flipped into Unetto Tokyo Pasta Factory. Soft opening started last week. Menu here: https://www.toasttab.com/local/order/kaz-2047-sawtelle-blvd/r-266ee3a3-57d8-4027-a45c-54e6408bbdab/item-edamame_e79b26ea-31e7-48b7-a349-24f9648f16da
Bolognese! I love Japanese spag bol. ![]()
Unetto is run by Kaz also. Supposedly there is a sister restaurant in Tokyo (Nihonbashi). The tarako ika uni pasta was pretty good. Unetto is currently in soft open mode.
In other Sawtelle news: Honeymee will be closing up shop in a few weeks… #TheRentIsTooDamnHigh
Tsujita (corner of Sawtelle/MIssissippi) is remodeling; just up the street, Tsujita Annex and Sushi Tsujita remain open…
We went to Tsujita Annex on Saturday - Tsujita is operating out of the Annex until the remodel is complete, so no more Annex menu for now. They also can’t serve beer or sake.
So does Killer Noodle by Tsujita.
Are you sure about Tsujita Sushi? I saw a “last day of service” sign there about a week ago.
Wondering if the ownership is has recently changed.
On my last visit - a few weeks ago - to the original Tsujita I noticed a lot of small things had changed. Example: the spicy takana and pickled ginger are no longer on the table, need to be requested, and come in small plastic containers (too small, for the amount of these things I need). The tsukemen was still fantastic. Many of the staff seemed unfamiliar as well.
Whoa I could have sworn I saw customers being served last weekend there. Great update. You have the proverbial pulse on Sawtelle.
Oh, that’s odd. The sign outside of Tsujita said that, during their closure, food was was available at the Annex or Sushi Tsujita (at least, that’s what I think it said). I’ll take a look when I’m next in the area…
Tried Unetto. Got the Tarako Ika Uni and the Carretierra. The first was a dried spaghetti, perfectly al dente, in a tasty, but very watery sauce… the second seemed to be fresh spaghetti alla chitarra in a garlicky tomato sauce HEAVILY enriched with puréed Tien Tsin chiles (or something comparable in heat and texture).
The Tarako Ika Uni was fine. Would’ve been great if it were thicker, glossier, or something. The Carretierra was way too intense. Wildly over the top. Seemed like a mistake. Split both alternating between the two which actually balanced out kind of nicely.
Bathroom has a Toto washlet for those who are keeping score.
Sushi Tsujita location is def open (but I assume only as temp replacement).
Premium gelato slinger Bacio Di Latte will be opening at 2008 Sawtelle Blvd. soon!
