It was pretty good! Warmed it up for lunch today and tossed in some banchan for a nice meal.
Next time the family skips town without me, I’m coming here for supplies.

What did you guys do for mooncakes?
ken giang bakery in echo park is my usual. they also make a very serviceable vegan (or at least vegetarian – been a while since i had it) banh mi on their amazing french bread.
You don’t happen to know if they sell lotus paste ones, do you???
We bought from Domi (https://www.eatdomi.com/), Domie’s (Domies Bakery - Google Search), and Sunmerry (Monterey Park location).
Sunmerry’s mooncake was not good – dry and flavorless. Domie’s lotus paste one was quite tasty, I was surprised. Domi’s black sesame was good but I enjoyed the Domie’s lotus one more. We have a lotus one from Domi that we have not yet tried, and we have another flavor or two from Domie’s that we have not yet tried.
I will caveat this with the confession that I am more or less a mooncake n00b. I am judging these purely on how my western palate enjoys them, which I recognize may result in different conclusions from those who grew up eating mooncakes or who know what a mooncake “should” taste like (to the extent that exists, which is probably a whole can of worms in itself).
Now you have my attention…
Friend saw Wing Wah (an old standard) a few wks ago, but they’re all sold out!!! And I’m also picky b/c I actually DON’T like egg yolk in mine (bad Asxian, I know).
I don’t know if there’s a “should” b/c, if you try the newfangled mooncakes in the freezer case, they look and taste totally diff from a traditional one. So go w/ whatever taste good to you.
Now you have my attention
Oh if you have not tried Domi before, you definitely should! They have a variety of great pastries year-round. They used to be pop-up only, which made it tough to get your hands on their products, but now they rotate between the Hollywood and Mar Vista farmers markets week to week. It’s very difficult to resist buying OOE when I walk by their booth at the farmers market.
Any Cuban food?
Some bomb cuban food lil havana, unfortunately no pics snapped sadly. The music was fire
Bello by Sandro Nardone. Newport Beach. Tried because I was nearby and it was in the Michelin guide. I thought it sucked compared to the Funke restaurants, Stella, Chi Spacca, Rossoblu, Angelini Osteria, Antico Nuovo, and many other unstarred Italian restaurants in the Michelin guide. I would not put it in my top 20 Italian restaurants in LA.
Took a while for me to get here, but, LDV. Lives up to it all. Didn’t realize how small it was. Sinatra booth. Surprisingly strong cocktail program for how traditional it is otherwise
I enjoyed my meal at LDV earlier this year. Food was generally quite good - better than Dan Tana’s (which is sort of a comp) for sure. It is grotesquely priced though…
Fable & Spirit — Newport Beach. A Michelin guide selection. The pizza was poor. Everything else was pretty good. I could see eating here again the next time I need to go to one of these silly beach cities (Laguna / Newport / Huntington).
The Attic. Long Beach. A supposedly Southern restaurant in the Michelin guide. Nothing about the food we ordered was particularly Southern. It was all pretty good though. The best dish was the cheetos mac & cheese, for reasons that had little to do with the cheetos topping and more to do with the al dente pasta and flavorful cheese sauce.
Amazing spot, love the truck, those chorreadas are killer!
Yeah I love everything they crank out
Where is this? It see several locations and not sure they’re all related.
