Thanks, I’ll update my post to aggregate the info.
Ooh, that Friday location is pretty do-able for me…
Sorry, no veggie options. They have three menu items to my recollection: shwarama sandwich (which you should order “Yaz style”–with pomegranate sauce), beef tallow fries, and a chocolate / pistachio / kataifi dessert. Smorgasburg has tons of veggie options though.
You know it’s going to be good based on just having 3 menu items!
Definitely go back and try the scallop aguachile! Speaking of that dish Taco Maria had a spectacular scallop aguachile.
Today was a study in contrasts. While partner was at Arden in WeHo w/ some friends
I was at Costco
I surely must’ve had their pizza at least once growing up. But I have no memory of it. Ordering and pick up is a breeze (kiosk and then go immediately up to the pick-up window). As the man was handling my pizzas, he said, “I appreciate you,” which totally reminded me of
At any rate, had I known ahead of time that a single slice was the size of an entire plate, I would’ve just gotten one slice (vs. 2).
For $1.98, you cannot complain about the pizza AT ALL. You can never go wrong w/ hot, melty, oozy cheese. I have never understood why you’d want a stuffed crust or ranch dipping sauce until have this slice. The cornicione is pretty puffy and chewy, and I couldn’t help but think how nice it’d be stuffed or w/ a dipping sauce…
It was actually kind of nice to see people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities wafting past as I was eating my slices. Couldn’t finish both corniciones, so I was glad to see that Costco has a container for food waste.
I came to Costco for some battery, to pick up my sunglasses, and to get some of these (based on @js76wisco mentioning these):
But one my way to that, I saw THIS:
F*CK, YES!!! I LOVE Galaga!!!
And, yes, I am seriously considering buying the “pub table” of Galaga. Totally reminds me of times of a local ice cream parlor growing up playing that game. And, yes, I am totally aware that it is nearly $500. Whatever. YOLO.
‘cornicione’ in reference to a costco slice is wild!!!
still miss their combo slice…
Yangmani is our favorite kbbq right now. The quality of the meat is very good and the banchan, salad, denjjang are better than most places.
What cuts do you like ordering here?
Also, I’m a little concerned about that 2nd picture with cooked and uncooked beef on the same pieces of lettuce
Haha yes it does look odd but that big galbi rib is par cooked in the kitchen then finished off on the grill.
We were 8 - 4 adults and 4 kids. There are 3 types of combos. We ordered the Premium Chefs Combo which is cooked over grates and has more premium cuts like ribeye cap and dry aged steak. This was for the adults. Kids shared the variety combo which has more kid friendly cuts (i.e. less expensive haha). Brisket, pork neck and bulgogi.
Yangmani is known for their tripe and intestines. One of the few places that has abomasum. It’s very good here but we did not order this time. Good strategy is to order one of the combo then supplement with half orders of tripe and intestines. You can only get half orders of these items after minimum purchase of I think 1 combo or 2 a la carte meats. All the beef and pork a la carte all full orders.
Ah, that makes more sense!
Thanks for the details, will add it to our list. Since moving back to LA in 2020, Koreatown has been our go to for showing folks visiting why this place is so awesome.
i am not enjoying the fact that Taco Maria still hasn’t announced any signs of re-opening. Any insiders know anything? How long am I to be without them?
no insider information, but in recent times they have been shipping their salsas from wisconsin, so it might be a while before they get back to socal and open anything…
Oh Mama Kitchen (Buena Park)
Lesson learned today: don’t come hungry
This quaint little shop in an industrial complex close to Dave Chang’s cold noodle joint, is a simple Korean deli. You could give up cooking if you live nearby and subsist on house made Korean staples.
Today’s haul: abalaone porridge, tuna kimbap, japchae, assorted pancakes, stewed lotus root, fish cake, seasoned egg and cucumber kimchi.
The tuna kimbap was topped with the cucumber kimchi for lunch.
Seasoned egg and lotus root for a snack.
Dinner was some japchae with some cucumber kimchi and a scallion-shrimp pancake.
All delicious and reminiscent of a friend’s mom’s cooking. I know where I’m going when I’m gonna be lazy.
That shop is pretty amazing!
Oh Mama plus Hansung Ggolmott Kimchi
That sounds delicious. ::sigh::
I worked at Clementine for several years. Owner Annie Miler treats staff like family.
@attran99 save some room for dduk. Oh Mama dduk is excellent. Such grew chew and flavors. Their mixed box is perfect for smaller consumption.
Across the street is Stereoscope for excellent fruity natural pour overs. I also have to stop and get a few to go orders of seollengtang at Jang Mo Jip. Easy breakfast for the kids
In L.A. proper, Mountain Cafe in Ktown (6th & Alexandria) also serves up a great abalone porridge…
Thank you!!! I was also going to ask if anyone knew of a place in LA, but I thought that would be too selfish of me.
So glad to hear that. Clementine is not exactly cheap, but that can be easily justified if the food is good and the staff is being treated well…
