For those who don’t know. Who is Max and how can we find his thoughts? Of course, only if it’s a public thing.

Apparently Somni is not one of the “The 15 Hottest New Restaurants in Los Angeles, December 2024”

Totally mind boggling omission. A blurb about how Backbone is one of the hardest reservations in LA (spoiler: it’s not), and not a mention of Somni.

somni is back and not surprisingly it’s still outstanding. it’s easily at a high two star level right out of the gate and la’s best shot at getting three stars.

the food is beautiful, whimsical and most importantly delicious. the caviar “nemo” fish is a play on their address and was one of the many highlights.

the little details like pre-warming your steak knife was a nice touch.

I was also really impressed with the non-alcoholic pairing, probably the best I’ve had.

service was friendly and professional maybe a tad nervous which is understandable only being open a week.

overall excellent and very excited to try the new menu.

After the initial couple of courses and lack of Neorest Toto :expressionless:, I was seriously concerned this was going to end up being a long tedious boring dinner…

then came the 3rd course and it was :rocket: til the end. I won’t go into details save for a few recs - wash your hands, beverages :100: (even my espresso), free parking. I’m happy Somni is back.

Expensive, but cheaper than a trip to Barcelona. :joy:

Fabulous experience right out of the gate and a great example of modern Catalan cooking. I thought everything was consistently good, making it hard to pick favorites. Caviar on dashi meringue was memorable. Lots of technique and intricate presentation, but the food tastes good (which is not always guaranteed) and there is a lot of use of different textures. I love this style of fine dining too, there’s a lot of interaction with the staff, and it is quite intimate with 14-16 people.

It seems like there were a lot of staff from Somni 1.0 which says a lot about the chef’s leadership

But did you leave hungry? Bang bang Dan Tana’s chicken parm?

Would you prefer Somni or Seline?

since it just opened we like to wait a little while before adding it to the heatmap. I’ll be on there very soon.

did not leave hungry but wasn’t stuffed. i could have gone for a slice or a burger because i’m a glutton but dining companions weren’t having it.
