Tfti, There’s a zero percent chance I was going to look anywhere other than the rolling hills location lol!
Haha yup that would be out of your way. I was thinking in possible food excursions to Gardena since that’s where the good stuff is.
Btw have you been to Tokyo Central PCH hot bar yet?
yeah it doesn’t look that good at first blush, but I also haven’t perused it extensively. I bought some food really quickly there once for someone else. I need to go when its fresh
The Nijiya curry flakes are good. I would add some gochugaru, spicy bean paste, etc to the onion base while it’s browning it is very mild.
Nice thanks for reporting back!
A piping hot bowl of fluffy rice would be perfect…

Mixed bag, was gonna go to redwood too maybe I should’ve but just decided to get three items at TA instead. Sandwich turkey, mortadella, mozz, sun dried tomato was super good.I think TA makes very good bread not a ton of sourdough flavor but the baguette was great with good crust and excellent chew add with high quality fillings at a good ratio and you can’t go wrong.
I have been less impressed by their pastries and the Kougin Aman looked phenomenal but tasted meh. Was not super crispy outside and was a bit gummy on the inside. Not a ton of sugar carmelization either. Might be user error as it was the afternoon but they looked great in the case. I’ve done this many times at TA where I know their pastries aren’t that great but can’t help myself and order something.
Pizza definitely leaves something to be desired great toppings mushrooms red peppers pesto and arugula the flavors worked well together. But they are definitely not pizza makers, I think they use the bread dough which doesn’t allow the pizza to come out right the base is still slightly soggy and the texture isn’t great due to the excessive moisture and no real sourdough flavor. They also don’t put their pizzas on screens so it immediately begins to get floppy being placed on a board directly after cooking.
Disappointing to hear about the TA pizza. I agree re the pastries. They look delicious but just don’t compare with the best in LA. I did enjoy the sandwich though. Had the Italian recently and its got a nice spread that complements the meat and cheese well. Could probably use a bit more meat though.
We started hitting El Segundo again after a long hiatus. My family loves Toast and Thai which is a mish-mash of Thai, Vietnamese, American breakfast and lunch items. I’m not a big fan, but it does have enough variety to keep everyone happy. That said, I’m always happy to go because I love Ginger’s Divine, which is right around the corner. I’ll say it now - it’s my favorite ice cream in the South Bay. Not to creamy, and the flavors are to die for. Not too sweet (by now, you probably know I hate it when things are too sweet) and the fruit flavors especially hit the spot. Had their Mango Lassi today and it was incredible. A yogurt ice cream base with mango sorbet swirled in. Eat together, it tasted just like a lassi. But you could also enjoy the elements separately.
Also hit up Kagura El Segundo for the first time in a long time. I forgot how much I love that place. The fried items, from katsu to tempura are done so nicely. Incredibly airy, not greasy at all. Prices have ticked up, but still reasonable for the amount of food you get.
Finally, in Lomita, I’m thankful that Nam Kitchen has finally opened. Such a good addition!
I’d be remiss to not mention the amazing young woman who works the counter on Sundays at Ginger’s Divine. She is amazing. So cheery, so generous and just make the entire experience so pleasant.
I will have to get to gingers! Kansha is still my South Bay fav with capri gelato in hermosa being my second fav.
What do you like at nam kitchen will have to check out Lomita version?
Got some iced drinks recently from lees and yi fang. The sago pomelo boba is 8 bucks now! Lees is always good in a pinch for the farmers market. Also got that curry @JeetKuneBao
another plug for redwood pizzas bread. I think they are only doing weekends or Fridays but you could call or prolly check out their ig. That shit is delicious already ate half the loaf in less than a day.
That bread is huge. 3H confirmed. And yes, it’s very good
What does 3h mean
3H I think means you lol
I need to get on that. The chef was actually a baker!
lol ah ok! I thought it was some esoteric baking term I was not aware of. Made this with the bread for lunch
It’s Hyper Hydration Honey process. You caught me
Shoot I was wrong. Learn something new
NAM is nothing amazing, but it’s just solid and reliable and 5 minutes from our house. Oddly enough, my son had the lomo saltado and really enjoyed. Big hunks of tender beef, well seasoned and super crunchy fries that were still soft on the inside. We haven’t worked through much of hte menu yet and am curious as to how the pho stacks up. FWIW, I am not a fan of Redbo because the broth is too sweet for my taste.
Damn redbo is tops for me since they got the temp issue figured out. I’ve had only the pho and egg rolls at nam and have been wanting to try other things plz report back will maybe check out lomo saltado next time.
I’m skeptical that the pijja palace owner can consistently pull in the clientele he hopes for but I’m excited for this to open up near me at the old azulcanela on western
