South Bay Staples

I checked out Tommy & Atticus this morning and they were totally sold out of pastries at 11am and the place was packed (nice to see!). I grabbed both of their sandwich offerings, a ham on french bread and a cucumber, pickled vegetables, and feta on sourdough and they were both really good. I do miss Giuliano’s but Tommy & Atticus is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood.

BTW - Anyone know what’s going on with Local Kitchens on PCH in Redondo (in the old Mama D’s spot)?

Thoughts?

I have none because I am perfectly happy with Sara Lee pound cake, and chain supermarket bakeries.

The guy has worked at Gjusta.

I really enjoyed both. All of the bread is sourdough fyi which I love. Also around 1030 ish they serve sandwiches. That is more up my alley. The morning buns seem popular.

Sara Lee pound cake can be pretty good sometimes!

I’ll have to go try, didn’t know he baked at gjusta. I loved all their baked goods there.

Try and go early because some of the bread will sell out.

Sara Lee Pound Cake, and all its wonderfulness, deserves its own thread.

JL’s mulberry compote on top of Sara Lee pound cake would be perfect

the one in el segundo has seating (havent been), i go to the one in Torrance and it’s just a to-go counter.

Used to work down the street. It was very good especially for LA.

oh man. That looks like Tamura’s Liquor in Maui. Best lunch we had on our trip, w/o question.

Uh, The Whale & Ale is closed.

This place is on my regular rotation. I really like it, but I think some folks have found it really salty.

They are also having a sriracha shortage, so the spicy tuna poke isn’t always available.

I also really like the fish nuggets.

The El Segundo one is in a charming neighborhood. Haven’t been to the Torrance location.

Having said all that, I think Kawamata is better. But this place is way closer.
