South Bay Staples

Cream Pan. Still not here. I am surprised it has taken them so long to get to the South Bay with the heavy Japanese population.

Shoya. Probably less than 10 seats. What a special place. Super intimate spot where the boss lady and all of the customers can interact with each other while eating some good food. I really like the beef tendon stew that night.

Same contractor that 99 Ranch Market uses in Westwood.

Thanks! I had not heard of this location! I had been picking up their Bread and Pastries at Seiwa, but happy to pick it up fresh!

Khao Soi Gai at Sweet Rice. The super sweet mom and daughter here said the owner is from Chiang Mai so I had to tried it. Broth is very good. Although I prefer the noodles and a drumstick at Northern Thai Food Club.

Cheeseburger at Ercoles. They use beef from next door market/butcher. With free parking after 9pm in MB and a burger craving this was a no brainer on a weekday night.

Side notes: Does anyone check parking on the Esplanade? What about that lot by that unofficial dog park?

Also short cut…take Van Ness!

Love that khao soi at Sweet Rice but agree that I prefer the chicken leg! The broth is excellent - not too heavy so its super drinkable unlike some other versions in town. The porridge is nice as well with some good porky parts, a poached egg, half a thousand year egg, fried vermicelli, ginger and a bag of chinese donut!

La espanola to satiate my post Spain withdrawals.

Delicious as always although a sandwich now costs 8 dollars where a few years ago I think it was 6.

That delightfully airy Galician bread tho… Still a deal. Huge bites!!!

Yes still delicious plus you get bag of Spanish chips which is always a plus!

If the chips are the Torres, I’ve been them at Ralphs Fresh Fare, I think (in addition to Epicurus).

The house bocadillo is so good. That has to be one of the best sandwiches in LA and it’s under $10. Most casual food is $10-$20 now.

Also the anchovy-tomato and tuna-tomato are also very good. I might hit that up this weekend.

House bocadillo plus rainbow umbrella cart fruit plate.

More tacos el compita action so good and don’t have to drive to tire shop!

I live super close to Tire Shop and go often… La Compita rules now. Went last weekend and the Tacos and Quesatacos were amazing! Tire Shops has watered down the Avocado Salsa, La Compita you can TASTE the Avocado. The only edge Tire Shop has is their Vampiros. They have the turn over to make the tostada fresh. La Compita they are in a bin. But My order is Quesatacos now.

La Compita will also happily comply with a meat only burrito request.

Ahhh I didn’t notice that. It explains the hardness. But their meat is tender with a lot of flavor and the avocado salsa was indeed avocado-y. :green_heart:

Yeah, they were just a little more chewy vs. crisp that I would like. It was still really good, especially with their garlic salsa… For Vampiro fans, I would not dissuade if they are there. But in comparison between the two… Tire Shop would win.

Being a non-native spanish speaker can any one explain why compita has a masculine “el” in front of it?

Pico and Venice?

I was also curious if it is the same as that location along with other locations. The Pico location also does good dorados de birria.
