South Bay Staples

That was 1000 post!

Has anyone tried Eboshi? Seems like another under the radar Japanese spot

South Bay is poppin!

Haven’t tried eboshi there’s so many ramen places in South Bay and I feel like most of them do tonkotsu broth I really want a different variety.

The Michoacán enchilada lady came back! Huge portion super filling, chicken legs, fresh cooked carrots, potato, a spicy based red sauce on the tortillas, pickled jalapeños, fresh tomato salsa, cabbage, crema, and a spicy salsa. The enchilada filling appeared to be ground chicken and queso fresco.

Good but quite heavy would’ve probably enjoyed a half portion more.

If I’m getting spendy at the market I’m still going with the cemita stand.

We do Eboshi all the time. Solid. Nothing to write home about but a filling, relatively cheap meal that no one ever complains about. I’m not a tonkatsu fan and I actually really enjoy their shio broth. It’s light but flavorful. And the mapo is good as well!

Anywhere in South Bay do a good tori pai tan ramen, bonito heavy ramen, or good shio (aside from eboshi and santouka)?

Eboshi used to be our goto spot when the original owner was manning the stove. His disciple has been cooking there for a while now.

The cooking is pretty heavy handed, i.e. big flavor, so I go there whenever I’m to indulge myself. The restaurants DNA is Chinese-Japanese cooking so their stir fried dishes are more distinguish. Their pan fried ramen is pretty unique. Ask for Iron Chef Yakisoba Special. It’s minced pork with pickled vegetable and spicy sauce. Not sure if the serving staff knows it, but the chef certainly does. (I noticed there has been of turnovers lately.) The Mapo Yakisoba is also good. Kanitama (Crab Omelette with Sweet & Sour Sauce) Fried Rice is one of their signature dish. This dish was off the chart good with the original chef. (Unnecessary info but I need to pay my respect.) My usual dish is Ja Ja Mien, nothing special but I like it. The stir fired beef liver can be good, but not consistent. One reliable dish is anything with Mapo

I didn’t know it was a chuka restaurant not I’m intrigued!

Interesting. When did the old chef leave?

And it’s definitely heavy handed, comfort food!

Prime chicken parm and the vodka slice tasty as fuck.

Wadatsumi tonkatsu don. Love the flavors, this time the pork was a little chewy. Gohan always perfection!

Back Home in Lahaina Hawaiian classic plate always hits the spot. Always get a haupia cheesecake to go for later!

He sold his business about seven years ago.

Ah, ok, so I’ve only known it post-sale.

Thank you for the inside info! I have to try this Japanese-Chinese/Chuka style of food! All of those dishes sound tasty! Did you grow in the South Bay? You are very knowledgeable!

I have lived in South Bay for a while but not grew up here. I frequent a few restaurants within a small radius, that’s about it.
