Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr may be a very very close second! Will need to do more research ASAP!
What’s the go to at wadatsumi? Roast beef bowl?
Yes! The tuna bowls are good too.
If you like a more pink on a beef bowl than check out Red Rock at Nijiya plaza
Oooohh that’s even closer will have to check out both lol
There is a Red Rock Express maybe three stores down from Wadatsumi. It is primarily to go but have a few seats inside.
I really enjoy their pizza as well!
I like the skirt steak more than the roast beef. Grill fish combo never misses. They use top quality Japanese rice, so may be Onigiri is the thing for you.
I had it twice didn’t love it. Which slice do you usually get?
I always get a corner slice with pepperoni. It’s a style that may not appeal to everyone though… It’s sort of a sicilian, but not quite as thick and not as greasy on the bottom while still being very crunchy. The sauce veers a bit sweet, but it just hits the spot sometimes when I want that crisp crust without the grease…
More recently, my kids and I have been getting slices from Bonnello’s on Narbonne / Arlington. Really thin crust that I love. And if you buy the ready made slices, it’s $4.25 for a 1/4 of a pizza! Great QPR.
I found bonellos to be unmemorable large and flaccid pizza.
Also I thought rieras pizza sauce is way too sweet but I’ll try a pepp slice next time.
I do want to try burratino though.
It’s sad we have to trek all the way up to el segundo for really good pizza.
You can call in order at Fatto A Mano for pizza
Not the same style I know
Never tried fatto a Mano pizza I’ll have to give that a go
We’ve ordered bonellos for take-out and it sucks, but re-heated out of their ovens, I’ve found it to be solid.
Yeah, if you don’t like the sweetness of the Riera’s sauce, the pepp won’t save it… I’m just a sucker for that crunchy crust.
Ken’s at the Torrance Farmers Market now has lychee grapes (I haven’t been there in awhile, so sorry if these aren’t new). But they are firm, juicy, sweet grapes that also have a wonderful lychee flavor to them! Can’t wait to eat the bag I bought!
Have you checked out La Bella Napoli? It’s run by an Italian couple and has pretty decent Neopolitan pizza. My other go-to pizza place is Artiano’s (formely The Appetizer back when it was up in RHE and had a full deli). It’s old school style pizza but, man, I love it. Full disclosure, I’ve been eating there my entire life so nostalgia miiiiiight be coloring my opinion a bit.
Lol. We love Artiano’s. For awhile, we were addicted to their calzones. It is old school, but the owners are the nicest people and the pizza is pretty good!
Will need to check out La Bella Napoli. I was going to try out Locale 90 in Redondo but it seems like the reviews are pretty mediocre…
Bells Napoli is my go to in the area but sadly doesn’t compare with “LA” pizza
Will have to try Artianos
Artiano’s isn’t a destination joint by any means. But I’d say it’s a solid local pizzeria that does a crust that is not overly doughy / thick.
Have any of you guys tried Ciao Bella in San Pedro? I haven’t hit them up yet but their Insta looks promising. They’ve done pop-ups all over Pedro (Brouwerj, Colossus, etc) and, I believe, they’ll be getting a brick and mortar soon.
Local 90 is ok. They scratch the itch in a pinch though and sometimes I go there expecting just “ok” and come away pleasantly surprised.
Agree about Artiano’s - it’s not something I’d tell a friend outside the South Bay to go out of their way for but as far a comfort food goes, it’s at the top of the list. And, yeah, the owners are lovely. I so miss their old sit-down spot (which is now an exceedingly weird Cheebo). It was like Cheers, you couldn’t drop in there and not run into a few neighbors and people you’d gone to elementary school with. However, after their head cook passed away and the kids took over, I guess they figured the new locale on Hawthorne would serve them better. The food is still solid though!
Yeah it’s so close to my house I figure I’ll check it out at some point.
I’ll bookmark ciao Bella!
