Heng Heng Chicken, Thai Town latest khao man gai specialist is now soft opening to-go only in Hawthorne.

For the record I had Taishi and it was pretty bad.

I had Heng Heng. Still soft opening with a BOGO special. Well the GO portion is a smaller portion but still it’s free. The chicken was fine and obviously not PRD/Marden’s level. Rice was a garlic rice. The sauce was the typical khao nam gai sauce. Some chopped ginger and chiles was provided. Also comes with a broth which was nice. Reminds me I should really just buy some daikon, chicken or pork or beef bones, and some garlic/ginger to make a big ass pot of soup at home. I can eat that daikon and bone soup everyday. In the Thai Town location I saw they also served the khao nam gai with blood and off cuts but not here (so far). It’s better than Taishi. It’s average and fine for a neighborhood spot I guess. Also across the street is a 24 hour hood burger spot called Fabulous Burgers.

Got some Ken’s Top Notch today. Kyoho grapes are incredible right now. Sweet, flavorful, with almost no seeds and the skin is very thin and barely astringent. I tend to peel these or spit out the skins, but was popping these in whole. And white nectarines are towards the tail end of the season but perfect… juicy and sweet. Other folks were loving on the Asian pears but I didn’t try them.

Been there twice since they opened. The staples are still the same the service is worse because they are busier seem to be doing more tables with same staff. Apparently they merged cho dang and da maat together into the paris baguette space because cho dang closed due to the demolition of gable house.

Yeah and my understanding is Jang Su Jang, which I knew from the mini restaurant chain up in the Bay Area was always related to Da Maat and Cho Dang. And agreed with the lackluster service… I was annoyed enough that I only tipped 10% because it was atrociously bad.

Tommy and Atticus. Jalapeño cheddar sourdough. So good.

Spoon House. Tarako sauce and Napolitano sauce.

Maybe it’s me but eating sourdough……

I feel better and less bloated than “regular” bread

I think I’ve read on the interwebs that some believe sourdough (or, at least, fermented breads) to be healthier.

But I still get bloated and itchy if I have “too much” sourdough.

DA BEST!!!

I LOVE the Chile Rellenos at Zamoras… and get them to sell them to me by the each so I can come home and make my own Chile Relleno burritos with these tortillas. For the smaller size, I prefer Caramelo Pork Lard. But for burrito size… Mejorando all the way.

Oooooohhh I didn’t even know Zamora sold chile rellonos

Yes they do… And it looks like in the Hawthorn Location they DO sell them by the Each! When I go to the one in Pico Union they are insistent that I get a plate. I’m like… I know it’s going to cost more… Tres Chiles por favor!
