Sorry, my man. Purple sweet potatoes are super cute, but also super inferior to the best Satsuma sweet potato :sweet_potato: (white flesh) varieties

Teach me all about it. How would you rank them? Are those varieties available at Tokyo Central or Mitsuwa?

Genuine question: does Japanese sweet potato taste diff from regular sweet potato?

Yes I think the Japanese sweet potato has a better flavor.

The biggest difference for me is that the potatoes from farmers market don’t dry out as much especially when you roast, cool then reheat the potato. The Japanese sweet potatoes I get from regular grocery stores seem to not reheat as well.

Got @A5KOBE ’fluenced and tried the Haupia cheesecake at Back Home in Lahaina. Very nice and light. Older immigrant Asian parents would approve LMAO.

Any Japanese food experts know what that black thing is with my saba shioyaki in the pic above? Super flavorful. Is it used top or dip the saba like the grated yam? I wouldn’t mind having more of it to finish up the rice.

Did it taste like nori? It’s meant to be eaten with rice.

It did! Thank you! It is so good with just some rice

You can buy it at most Japanese markets in a small glass jar

Definitely tsukudani. My family will make ochazuke with it, basically rice with tsukudani and tea.

@liq Really appreciate this info!:pray::pray:
I went to LFB 3 x in the last few months, but had no idea they decided to open up a cafe.

Looking forward to ordering their St. Honore dessert and other items at Adore Cafe.

Finally went back to Ichimiann after over 10 years since my last visit.

Thanks for posting your Ichimiann visit in July @JeetKuneBao

Got the tempura soba set :yum:

Nice to see they’ve expanded the space with the remodel. Looking forward to going back with my NorCal relative. Cold soba sooo good!

Just in case there is a misunderstanding, LFB and Adore have different owners.

Ichimiann is so good. Otafuku also has a pretty damn good bowl of soba!

Before the current owners, the LFB bakery location was called Desserts by Patrick which closed back in 2020. Patrick went back to France (I think) but recently returned and opened Adore. Fun fact: the little plaza where LFB is located still has signage up for DBP.

You are right. We just got so used to saying “Let’s go that French bakery” and have forgotten it’s official name.
