South Bay Staples

Welcome to the board!

That is some valuable info on Yoana’s Fish Tacos! I have not seen her since she left Wilmington Night Market. Thank you for the info! Do you happen to know what fish she is using?

I keep forgetting about Gardena Cinema they have so much cool and vintage movies showing.

I think I seen Frogs at Torrance Farmers Market.

I am personally saddened by the closure of Seaside Palace. We went there to get their koobideh. The place seemed to be going downhill when the husband and wife owners took a break from the business and had other family members pitch in.

About two weeks ago, we tried to call in an order but nobody picked up the phone. We drove over there only to find the inside of the restaurant has been gutted. The website is oddly still up for now.

Anyone have any good recs in the South Bay for Persian food? I know Chicken Maison has ground beef kebabs but they aren’t as good. I don’t want to have to drive out to the west side for tahdig or koobideh.

Saffron food mart and fanoos. I prefer saffron

We usually go to Fanoos. Their cornish hen kabob is good, lamb shank has gone downhill. Turquoise is just not my food scene, but SO likes it. This reminds me to checkout Jon’s Market on 190th.

Yoana’s Fish Tacos - Do you happen to know what fish she is using?

Sorry, I don’t know which fish she uses. The tacos were delicious though!

South Bay Restaurant is such a good morning spot for Vietnamese soups. It is getting to be that time of weather, after all.

They open hours before my other spot Thai Lai. My favorite is the Hu Tieu Nam Vang pictured here. Sorry I mixed it up and added stuff before taking a picture, but hope this gives you an idea.

I also order a banh mi from Cafe Nho next door to go for lunch. A two for one, so to speak.

Cheers,
the F-man

I love when people in LA/OC start talking about soups, stews and other warming dishes when the temperature dips to 70. Makes my younger self in school at Madison, WI laugh.

Very kind my friend! Warning, the article linked is over three years old… but I do often pick up food from here when I am in the area because so many of the dishes are great for reheating even a couple days later.

Yes Makkah is awesome!

I’ll need to try it out!

Gaburi chicken just opened I believe it’s a Japanese chain that is making its first foray stateside. A must stop in South Bay.

Maybe top 3 ramen for me? I don’t have ramen often but the tori paitan style was medium light with intense chicken flavor, not heavy at all. So much better than tonkotsu

Fried foods were delightful especially fried soft bone. Their famous grilled chicken was juicy and tender specially mixing it with their garlic egg rice.

Only nit is that it is definitely beer food so you’ll be sucking those down and I wish they had pickles or some type of counter point to all these heavy dishes.
