Miss my Belizean lunches like crazy
Got to try the ant egg and sweet vegetable soup.
Super umami (fermented shrimp paste???), spicy, those vegetables are so nice very fresh and subtle sweetness.
LBC location
Panang curry, veg dumplings in green curry, and mango sticky rice. All bangers, cool spot, nice service
Great place. Cute interior, nice server. I love how Thai people elongate the end of words. Thank you so muuuuch.
The gaeng tai pla (fish innards curry) is phenomenal—incredible flavor and feels refined due to the chunks of fresh bamboo and petai beans. Better than the Jitlada version. But be warned: it just may be the spiciest dish I’ve ever eaten.
The grilled squid was also above par—much more tender than typical.
I don’t know if I ordered wrong, but I did not have a good experience with this restaurant. I ordered chicken with Thai basil, sticky rice, steamed vegetables and Lao style som tam.
The chicken with basil was mediocre - the basil was not fragrant and didn’t give the dish the pop that you get when this dish is made correctly. The chicken was tough and overcooked. The spicing was meh.
The sticky rice seemed old or out of the microwave.
Som tam is one of my favorite dishes in the universe and I have eaten great som tam in Laos and in Thailand and also years ago at the Thai Temple in the Valley when they had a weekend vendor who made heavenly som tam. I couldn’t eat this one. It was both too sweet (someone had a very copious hand with the sugar) and too spicy to be edible (and I have a rally high tolerance for spice). But this was spicy in the way that I find habaneros – all heat and no flavor. I had also ordered this “spicy” rather than “Thai spicy” because unfortunately in this country I find that Thai spicy just means that they throw in too many peppers with no sense of balance. According to Wikepedia, som tam should achieve a perfect balance of spicy, sour, salty, and sweet. This one was inedible.
The steamed vegetables were meh, although I guess steamed vegetables usually are unless the produce is Impeccable.
I really really wanted to like this place . . .
