Sprouts in da hood

Yep, I always have TJ’s dijon mustard in the fridge.

In case you were wondering (doubtful), TJ’s on 14th St. in Manhattan carries about 25 kinds of coffee. But not Bay Blend. Alas.

You might ask if they can order it. Might be regional, though.

I may just do that. I usually don’t engage much with the staff of any store, but just this afternoon I found myself in a lengthy conversation about balcony gardening with the cashier at TJ’s Wine (there was no one behind me - I checked repeatedly). Those people are chatty.

They are. Sometimes I just want to pay for my milk and vegan frozen dinosaurs. I don’t want a new best friend.

Nor anyone questioning the vegan dinosaurs and the milk in the same basket. [Oh, I have lived in Berkeley a long time.]

I work near a Sprouts, WF and Trader Joes. I was a die hard TJs person until Sprouts opened. Sprouts fits most of my needs and I’ve been very happy with their offerings and price. Things I always buy at sprouts are cold cuts, dairy, seafood (They have Regal Springs Tilapia) and meats. Everything except produce and a few speciality items (Bianco Canned Tomatoes) we get at Sprouts. Finally, their soups are the best among all supermarkets (The Chicken Noodle and Chicken Tortilla are favorites) so i find myself there often for those.

As others have mentioned, it’s worth keeping an eye on their circulars. We don’t use a lot of frozen stuff, but they often have frozen Aisle sales as well as supplement and body/beauty sales.

Also, not sure if this is a regional thing or company wide, but Wednesdays is their “double dip” day. That’s the day the previous week’s sale and the current week’s sale overlap, so you can get both weeks’ sale prices. I try to do my Sprouts shopping on Wednesdays so I can take advantage of both sales.

Oh sweet. Can I share that on the save money eating thread?

Funny! Whole Foods is worse. They attract the food crazies. I was at check out once and when the woman behind me saw peanut butter in my cart she started speaking loudly, to no one (but really to me) about how peanuts are sooo toxic and should be illegal. I told her to “stay in her own lane.” Another time, I heard a woman yelling - clear across the store - at the butchers for not having Step 6 meats. I’ve read those Steps - what is Step 6, a monthly visit to a day spa? At that point you should just become a vegetarian.

I was walking past a film school last night and noticed a sign in the window that said it was a nut-free facility.

I don’t think there exists a film school that’s free of nuts. (I went to film school.)

Haha… I was thinking that.

It is a self-negating phrase.

Well they do that in LA for sure. (The double ad wednesday.) Not sure about their other locations.

Sprouts is not my be all and end all but they are HANDY.

My favorite thing to buy there? The old fashioned rolled oats, especially when they are on sale (either two pounds for $1 or 69¢ a pound.) Easily as good as Quaker Oats, almost as good as the Hadley Date farm oats.

Love their produce sales and, come fall, their canned pumpkin is excellent and well priced.

Love their weekend sales - usually excellent produce, fish and cheese deals. And many of their herbs and supplements are significantly less than Whole Foods.

Oh and discounted, freshly made sushi on Wednesdays : )

They finally opened on La Brea & San Vicente, and everything is on sale. I bought wild-caught, North Atlantic, Lobster tails (raw, prev. frozen) for $7.99 each. They’ll be $6.99 this Wednesday.

P.S. Got the smaller round watermelon for $3.99 @boogiebaby.

That explains the extra $1 off on the lobster tails. Will start trying to hit them up on Wednesday’s.

It was one of my first experiences with Sprouts. They don’t have everything I buy and not a lot of organics in the produce section. The staff still needs some training (it was painful watching the checker try to double bag already full bags). But that will work itself out. They have enough stuff, it’s not as pricey as WF and it’s really close. I’m glad they’re here.

Edit: They also save paper by having 2-sided receipts. I thought she forgot to charge me for some stuff. :relaxed:

I love their double sides reciepts… I wish WF would get with the PROGRAM!!!

That Sprouts is the closest one to us and they have improved a lot from when they first opened. It takes a little bit for the staff to get with it. When the one in Palms on Venice opened… we went there one night and it took nearly half an HOUR to get checked out because they were so short staffed and the cashier was a new one. The staff was very nice and gave us all in line cookies and bottles of sprouts water.
