I wanted to make a plug for the Japanese comfort food cafe Suehiro and their recent branch-off Suehiro Mini as an excellent, downtown adjacent delivery/to-go option. Their prices are quite reasonable, especially their weekday lunch specials, and they’ve helped scratch my itch for Japanese food of late. (We’ve also ordered from Osawa in Pasadena but I’m more into donburi than sushi on most days).

Suehiro is great! I absolutely love love the Hayashi Rice!!! So glorious when the egg yolk drips all over it.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Suehiro. I used to go there all the time in the 80’s after everything else was closed for the night…(also Atomic Cafe and Gorky’s). Solid Japanese comfort food…

Suehiro now has a location on Main in DTLA. It’s hard for me to remember every restaurant that used to be in this location. Pete’s? Blossom? Lives come lives go. Suehiro has real Japanese people, which is a plus. Unfortunately, it’s mediocre by Japan standards and just okay by LA standards.
