Does anyone know anything about the chickens they use, like where they’re from, how they’re raised?

i asked the owner and he said he uses the same chickens that a certain gardena yakitori restaurant uses, i’m guessing torimatsu?

Anyone know how they’re doing reservations right now? Their Tock isn’t up yet. Do I have to ask Yamato-san?

Okay, thanks. Doesn’t tell me what I want to know, though. I guess I’ll ask him for details.

I’d say yes, DM Yamato-san. That’s how he told me to reserve.

Original chef is no longer there. I’d like to think I’m pretty well versed in all things yakitori, and while this meal was good, I don’t think It’s likely I would come back here. While I love a good omakase, I prefer Torigoya’s skewers; their pricing, flavor, and range is simply better.

I will also not go back, unless they start offering an a la carte menu so that I could choose lots of veggies and more horumon/off-cuts. I found the standard cuts very bland. I haven’t been to Torigoya yet but it’s on my list!

To my very unsophisticated yakitori tastes, I’d rank the four yakitori restaurants I’ve been to like this:

Tsubaki (even though it’s not a specialist)

Some Michelin-starred Yakitori specialist in Tokyo; name forever forgotten

Torigoya

[big gap]

Kidori

I found Kidori’s yakitori bland and undersalted. For the ground chicken and rice, I would have liked less mirin.

Have you (or anyone else here) tried the new Gokigen Tori on Sepulveda?

Been twice.
Mixed feelings, but mostly favorable.
Excellent bincho flavor.
Quite large pieces of chicken (some a little TOO BIG, IMHO) and some off-the-beaten-sticks (for LA) like a thigh with a heap of grated radish (Oroshi Niku), a shoulder stick (Gokigen Kushi) that I really liked.
The teba (wing) was a bit scrawny.
Sadly, some sticks were too salty.
Didn’t love the soborro don as much as Yakitori Ya or Torigoya but was fine.
LOVE the option of choosing how rare, medium, or well done for the sasami.

We have not tried, but will put it on the list. The chicken list.

Terrible pacing if you order a la carte. A load of sticks plunked down all at once after a long wait.

Omakase bar was better but not up to Yakitori-ya standard. Grill Sergio seemed distracted both times we went.

Haven’t been yet, either, but excited to try it. I see people complain about smokiness (not of the food, but of the venue). What’s the reality?
