Sushidokoro Miyama - Arcadia

Who has the scoop about the new omakase restaurant by Kisen?

The kohada roll is looking nice.

Went on Friday. Didn’t get kohada. Couple next to us did. No big deal.

$180 a person

Please note. Missing a few pictures. I took videos but forgot the pics

Missing a toro hand roll. Missing a monkfish liver hand roll. Missing a tuna appetizer dish.

It was a lot of food. You will leave stuffed. Good value and will probably be very busy in Arcadia. It’s not kaneyoshi or Morihiro
but that’s not its intention. They wanted to build a fun well priced omakase for their loyal clientele in Arcadia.

Happy to refer anyone if necessary.

Looks like a good QPR. I’m looking forward to my visit next week. We need more places like this in the SGV.

Had a really good meal at miyama a couple weeks ago. Chef has really upped his game in the last few months. First visit was fine second visit was really good. Rice game has improved greatly (before it was too much rice). The cooked dishes have a really hearty homey feel to them.

Great addition to our neighborhood. Glad to see a revival is sub $200 sushi spots

Tried to get a last minute 5:30 tonight, checked out at 11:40ish and they stop doing same day at 11:30 :sob:

If anything I think people are underselling this excellent sushi restaurant. I think it is among the best in the LA area. I liked the soups as much as the sushi.

This Tuesday through Friday, I went to four sushi restaurants, which I rank like this: Morihiro > Miyama > 715 > Nozawa Bar.

Incidentally, Chef Nozawa is going to Japan after this year, so now is the last chance to try out his memorable and reasonably priced sushi bar in Beverly Hills. Best dish: New Zealand lobster / live octopus / tuna sashimi.

Back to Miyama. Pictured below are baby eels (noresore).

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone! I think it’s a great little sushi bar and an excellent value. It feels like the kind of neighborhood sushiya one might encounter in Tokyo. I’d say that the owner, Yamato san, suceeded in fulfilling his vision with this one.

i just went. i really liked it. i agree with others – the cooked foods are a highlight, good value, and lots of food. assuming a top-tier of kaneyoshi / inaba / shunji / morihiro / mori nozomi, i put this place firmly in that next tier with kusano and takeda, and ahead of a tier with shin / kogane / masuyoshi. we are very spoiled for sushi in LA.

Friends - need to book an under 200$ sushi spot (can maybe flex to 225) in the next few weeks.

Miyama has reservations but the crew has also thrown out Sawa (which I do enjoy) and I’d normally try for Sonagi but don’t think I’ll be able to squeeze 4 people in unless Daniel has some cancellations.

Between Miyama, Matsumoto, Masuyoshi, and Sawa which one would you guys do? (unless I’m missing some of the other less expensive spots) Most important factor is probably variety of fish - they’re less interested in just tuna and are fans of more silver skin, etc.
