My friend and I split a pizza and pasta at Terroni every few months. Terroni has around half a dozen locations in Toronto. We brunched on Sackville St Terroni patio today. Everything was great.

Terroni has pretty strict rules

I get along better with them when I follow the rules!
I preface my request with .. “I know there’s no substitution but …” and I am fully ready for them to refuse. I was surprised when they accommodated dressing on the side for my salad … though on another visit my request for balsamic was denied. The wait staff actually said “we don’t use balsamic”. WTH …
Lol! to be fair a lot of Chefs hate the fake balsamic that often gets used for salads! I tend to love places that have enough of a point of view to say you know what, you can’t have ketchup with your fries (or something else ridiculous) which is totally petty but I respect that the Chef wants what he wants
This place is a love it or hate it Toronto based chain, with at least one location in LA.
I like it, but…
the rules they enforce that I know of:
No parmesan or other cheese allowed on seafood dishes and seafood pastas, even if the customer asks.
The same server will add cheese to taste, to meat dishes and vegetarian dishes.
No diet coke available, iirc. There are a few other drinks that aren’t available because management doesn’t want them drinking them with the Italian food iirc.
I think they do serve cappuccino after 12 pm which would be gauche traditionally in Italy.
And I guess, no dressing on the side, if you have a stickler server!
So curious about what drinks they consider unacceptable with Italian food. I usually ask for hot water with lemon which they’ve always provided.
I seem to remember they don’t serve Bloody Caesars. but I could be wrong and that may have changed.
