Tesla drive-in: threat or menace

I choose my businesses based on many factors. This one helps. It’s not because of “political affiliation” it’s for outwardly supporting someone like Elon Musk who is dismantling infrastructure that keeps our country going, for being outwardly anti trans, for being a general piece of shit.

Also, I am - by most accounts - radical. I’m a middle eastern Jew who supports the liberation of Palestine, an active member of the DSA, and used to play in hardcore anti racist punk bands. I put my money, and my time where my mouth is. I can’t afford to go out to expensive meals daily, and on the off chance I go to get a pastry, I have other options. I’m expressing a preference for those other options.

You just repeat canned talking points about the “intolerant left,” and antagonizing this forum because YOU are antagonized by people being so bold as to say “man that sucks about Walter, he’s a nice guy but I guess I can go elsewhere”

I appreciate your candor.

Right. we’re talking about buying pies, not whether we’d save margarita and walter from a burning building. it’s so silly

I’ll go to Republique for the pastries regardless of the owners’ politics. People who run restaurants are too busy to know much about what’s going on in the world.

That is a very naive view of the world. Everybody (hopefully) should form an own believe system throughout life about many aspect of life and have a morale system which covers all these topics you mentioned (and many more). Based on this believe system one should interact with the world around you which includes which shops or restaurants you visit, which music you might avoid etc etc. Eating is for joy but ultimately can be also political expression

she follows charlie kirk and DOGE on Instagram . She definitely has an opinion on what’s going on in the world. Plenty of strongly political leaning chefs out there. The idea that because they run a restaurant they don’t have time to be informed is kinda silly

Very lame excuse and it’s not like other people aren’t working as hard but somehow are able to have sense of what is happening in the world

THEY ARE JUST TOO DEDICATED TO THEIR CRAFT

Also, the context of the quote that kicked all this off — that margarita was talking the other day about how she wants to buy a tesla so we know which side she’s on — makes pretty clear that she was informed. in any case, they had time to get informed pretty quickly before they put out that IG post

indeed, they were working so hard at making pies that they forgot all about the fact that they are also running a business and may have views on things like taxes, regulations, labor / employment issues . . .

some folks on this board are just tying themselves in knots trying to tell us why the sky isn’t blue

Exactly @mzonelli. We all draw lines about what we consider normative beliefs and what we think exist outside those bounds. This isn’t a novel phenomenon. Ahistorical to say it is.

Totally agree. Incredibly patronizing and the soft bigotry of low expectations lol. Pretty easy to distinguish between those who make public political statements and those that don’t.

There’s obviously a fundamental disagreement whether MAGA (not coextensive with those who voted for Trump per se) is normative and what qualifies as support. Some of us think the current administration is an American Pinochet or Orban, and for that reason we aren’t gonna patronize businesses that express active support.

You could say that’s a sign of impotence or political laziness, but consuming based on beliefs isn’t new or crazy.

Every accusation is a confession though…

Which are symptoms of and reinforce having no idea what’s going on.

@robert I don’t understand your point here. Are you saying that her following these people means she doesn’t know what’s going on?

Perhaps (and more likely) she knows exactly what is going on and being a follower is a sign of support of those ideas

Obviously. And doing so exacerbates her ignorance. Not only is she not getting the facts, she’s further clouding her muddled mind with mis/disinformation.

how does she have time to cloud her mind with all this misinformation when she’s too busy working all the time?

Following bullshitters and conspiracy theorists on social media takes only a tiny fraction of the time and attention required to actually learn what’s going on.

Everyone who follows conspiracy theorists is uninformed, or just Margarita? Who is the arbiter? It seems like you are completely stripping her of agency.
