Tachiuo, AKA belt fish or cutlass fish… This piece of tachiuo nigiri was Shunji’s offering a few weeks back.

My goodness, someone is feeling bitter about their life and decided to blame it on restaurant servers. Maybe focus that anger on changing the system instead of ranting on Yelp. Rant to your congress person instead.

Thanks for the clarification.

this person is a gem. I made no changes to the following review:

I decided to try a new local sushi place. I had read about Kampai opening it’s new location so I made a reservation to meet up with a girlfriend there. I got there first at 8 pm. The restaurant wasn’t empty but not full or crazy busy. There was no help running around frantically trying to take care of the guests. When one walks in the front door the sushi bar is in front of you and to the left. Any customers are fully visible to the sushi chefs as they come through the door. I walked in and there were 3 of them there. Not one smiled, said hello, greeted me in any way. Then I stood there and no one came over to seat me so finally I flagged someone down and they brought me to a very noisy table area with wooden tables and uncomfortable bare wooden chairs. When my friend arrived we switched to the sushi bar. It was much quieter there and at least the chairs were padded. This is a brand new place though from the decor or lack of, it looks like it has been there for years and years. Nothing nice or special just a medium sized local sushi place on a main street with an ugly take out window area inside the restaurant and a very small about 8 seat sushi bar. No decor. No full bar. Beer and wine and sake list. Once seated at the the sushi bar the sushi chefs still did not greet us at all. We sat for at least 20 minutes until finally a server came over and brought us menus and sort of apologized for us waiting so long with no water, no ginger no menus, nothing. We asked for some waters and she brought those after a while. Then we ordered and still had to ask for some ginger and wasabi. One item we ordered was a special spicy tuna roll but we asked for spicy salmon instead. Right beside us the server asked the sushi chef if he would make it and still without acknowledging us barely looked at her and told her “2 dollars more” and that was that. I’m surprised they charged more for that and appalled by his behavior not even speaking with us. We told the server how we felt and of course she kindly apologized and also apologized for our being neglected. She was very nice but not very attentive even after that. We were brought our food. We also ordered a baked scallop dish that was essentially a dynamite. Nothing special. Very sweet and loaded with mayo. The food was so so. Not the best not the worst but completely overpriced. 2 to 3 times more than other places so we expected it to be fabulous. I could see if it were Nobu, Matsuhisa, even Sugar Fish or Sushi Roku but this place is a hole in the wall to command those kinds of prices that they do and not have fabulous food. In addition we were never given a hot towel, never asked if we wanted a drink besides the water we had. never checked on to see how are food was, never asked if we wanted more ginger, never asked if we wanted to order any more food, never asked if we wanted desert, in fact no server returned after the food was served at all and the sushi chefs in front of us completely ignored us the whole time. They pretty much ignored everyone even the customer who came in and was sending mugs of beers to them. They weren’t even fun and jovial with her. We ended up striking up a conversation with a man sitting next us at the bar and were there for over 3 hours at the bar completely ignored. In fact our dirty dishes were never removed from us either. So again we were there for over 3 hours and still the sushi chefs never said even hello to us. The man we were chatting with said one of the chefs spoke with him and was pleasant but that was while the owner was sitting at the bar. There you have it. By the time we arrived the owner was no longer there. As we were getting ready to pay another waiter finally came over and asked how it all was and we proceeded to relate what I am here. He was very apologetic and nice but it was way too late fo that. When we walked out the door the sushi chefs did not even say goodbye or thank us but the waiter came running out the door to bow and profusely apologize again which was very kind and appreciated but again way too late, This place needs an attitude adjustment, better service, padded chairs, lower prices, happier and attentive sushi chefs, more attentive servers and on and on and on. They need to remember there are so so many sushi choices in town.

like, seriously:

Umm…if you felt unwelcome, why on earth would you spend 3 hours somewhere? Also feels like they were at some neighborhood sushi joint, and expected the red carpet to be rolled out. Who does that?

Some people just like to kvetch.

He had many of my posts on CH removed :joy:

He who? Did I miss that?

That’s not Char Siu!!! Stop calling that!

hence the 2.0!

Stupid question…maybe…does the restaurant call that char siu? If it’s listed on the menu like that…then it’s safe to say that people are not smart enough to know better.

Never mind…retracted. It’s referred to as Red Grain Pork on the menu. Why the eff don’t people just refer to it as Red Grain Pork like the menu? People are stupid.

To be fair, that is an insulting dessert. They didn’t even bother to write happy birthday on that porcelain sink.
