The Four Horsemen

I’ll be in New York mid November and would love to go to the Four Horsemen. I’ve been trying (and failing) to get in for ~7 years. I generally only go to NYC once or twice a year, and so my sample size of attempts is not huge here, but it’s a crushing string of defeats nonetheless. It’s not just that the food and wine is supposed to be great, but also that LCD Soundsystem is one of my all time favorite bands, and James Murphy one of my musical idols. I want nothing more than to dine at the Four Horsemen, then head over to Queens for the LCD concert - and did I mention this is all happening on my birthday?

Perusing Reddit threads, it sounds like Resy these days is (still) essentially impossible, and that the restaurant holds a lot of tables for regulars/friends/family.

If anybody has an in - please shoot me a DM

Not quite the same, but the same team (with LCD guy still part owner, I think) also just opened I Cavallini across the street. So another one to try for Resy and/or walk-in if you find the menu interesting too.

Did you go see LCD Soundsystem at Hollywood Bowl last month? Fantastic show from LCD per usual! and Pulp was a great opener.. Jarvis Crocker, hell a performer!

Go to Four Horsemen at 5, they open at 5:30, you will get a table or more likely seating at the bar right when they open for sure

Four Horsemen is a trendsetter in the area no doubt but seeing how they’ve grown over time is the big winner. I first went in 2017 and it was nowhere near Michelin quality at that point - more of an emergence of a new natural wine bar in the area, decent food, okay decor, but it had the James Murphy name tied to it. Then they renovated the place and brought in Chef Nick Curtola and it was the flip of the year. Michelin star before you know it. Four Horsemen likes to change up their menu a lot, sometimes daily, which is great for regulars. I’ve been 4 times over the last 8 years and it’s always casual, creative, and consistent. The food is seasonal and tasty, but you won’t leave wow’d thinking it was an A+ restaurant, more like an 8/10 every time.

Fun story: My wife and I were leaving Neeloo, it was a nice new French restaurant in the area that unfortunately quickly shut down, and it is now the location of Four Horsemen’s new Italian sister restaurant, I Cavallini. After leaving Neeloo, we stopped by Nightmoves around 7, which is a dance bar right next to Four Horsemen also owned by James. Well, we stopped in, chatted with the bartenders, got a cocktail, and told them we were leaving and they said oh no, you can’t do that with a big grin… and I’m like wtf is happening? They said don’t let it out but James is doing a surprise DJ set tonight. Nightmoves only holds 75 people, so it’s an intimate dance floor and set for DJ’s. Well, we went home to walk our dog and immediately came back. By 9, his entire friends & fam guest list was in, and the place was closed for the night, and we were lucky to experience James DJ’ing all night. A very memorable and serendipitous moment, especially for a big time LCD fan.

Normally great advice - but during the Brooklyn Steel/Knockdown residencies they usually have the restaurant bought out.

I think I was also at Nightmoves that night…hahahah but I’m sure it’s happened more than once.

Yup I was at the Bowl! And I completely agree with your analysis. LCD put on a banging show as always, but Jarvis simply exudes swagger.

Sounds like you’ve had some memorable experiences at Horsemen/Nightmoves. Hopefully I get lucky :crossed_fingers:
