Valley Village Russian deli recommendations?

Who has the “best” borscht? Any must have salads?, etc., any other recommendations welcome.

I’ve been in Tashkent Produce and Odessa Grocery, but I haven’t taken full advantage of their deli counters (Tashkent for plov, plov, plov). How is Babushka Grandma’s?

Where’s @Nemroz to tell me they all suck? (jk)

It’s Georgian not Russian, and it’s Van Nuys not Valley Village, but I like Saqartvelo on Sepulveda and Vanowen. They offer three different khachapuri styles, delicious salads, and chicken tabaka. My Russian friends think it’s great.

They don’t have a website or I would link it.

Oh yeah, familiar with Saqartvelo :+1: Did some intel there hoping to do a much deserved piece on them, but that didn’t pan out :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Good rec though, I also encourage folks to check out Saqartvelo.

I’m looking specifically for something along Russian deli row along Laurel Canyon (Babushka Grandma’s; Odessa Grocery; Tashkent Produce), because I’m literally planning to be on Laurel Canyon.

If anyone else has any recommendations, please, keep ‘em comin’. I’ll be down in that area Thursday.

I haven’t decided yet, just thanking @Nemroz for his input :+1:

They are a block away try them both

Tashkent’s is meatier. I think I like Odessa’s better but I like Tashkent’s kharcho better.

Thanks :+1:That’s kind of what I was thinking of doing , only with one borscht and other deli items. I just wondered who of the three along Laurel Canyon had an edge borscht-wise, and what other items to pick up where (potentially at any of the three).

begging you to skip the T in Borsch. I dont know why our yiddish friends brought the T over with their Borsch to the US.

Force of habit. I’ll try @Nemroz :+1:, but it seems even some restaurants (e.g. Traktir, Kalinka) have given up and gone with the ‘t’.
